1. I learned a few tunes on the recorder (like hot cross buns). Does that count?
:P

I wish I played any instrument. I have NO musical talent. Wait, I take that back. I am decent on Guitar Hero. :P

5. Unfortunately my recorder skills came from
my Music for Elemetary class in college. And by then, it was too late. My air control sucked some kinda bad.

4. I too played years ago
my claim to fame was "Bouree" which was a hip tune at the time and our band liked to put it in a few of our sets.

Been awhile since I picked it up. But my daughter and niece both played the flute, I like to think through my enthusiastic encouragement.

8. Took lessons on it for a few weeks about 30 years ago, but
just not my instrument.
I had a nice old silver Artley - kind of like to have one now just to see if I could pick it up.

9. I did
We had to choose an instrument in junior high. I wanted to play the sax but my parents said I had to use my sister's hand-me-down flute. I was teased mercilessly.

11. No but I heard an awesome piece on the radio today that I don't know
It was a husband and wife I think. He fluted and she played some string I think. She may have also been playing a flute, but there was a string section.

It was classical. I may not know who/what is being played, but it calms my rage at times :P

:hi:

12. Yep
Been playing since I was 10, not particularly well (the public school music program sucked in our county). After not playing since college, I recently started lessons and hope to find an amateur orchestra in the spring.

13. I've done early music stuff with recorder
serious recorder music, not elementary school stuff. :P And I made a flute out of PVC for the hell of it. But I've never done the modern flute.

16. I don't but my sister does
She started in third grade(I was an eyewitness), and also plays the piano and sings. She has a PhD in musicology, teaches at a college in Orange County and just had her first book published earlier his year...I asked her if I could borrow her flute in order to learn how to play it and she said NO! She knows me pretty well...

17. My foster daughter's current lover plays the flute
and we set up a booth for the Gay Pridefest here in downtown Denver. We were doing henna tats and massages. Christian was able to drum up a lot of business playing her flute in front of the booth.

I have a beautiful Yamaha open hole low b silver head joint. Played in HS, first chair, went to states. I'm hoping my daughter will pick it up when she's older. :hi:

20. I do.
Edited on Fri Dec-05-08 11:26 AM by Blue_In_AK
I started playing in fourth grade, played all through junior high and the first year of high school. I picked it back up later and learned how to improvise, jammed with a lot of friends, played a few low-key places around town with a guitarist friend. I don't play it much anymore, but occasionally I'll get it out and play a few tunes.

Music has been replaced by photography here in the past few years.

22. Tried to in middle school, but no luck
My upper lip is teardrop-shaped - not good for flutes. Wound up on alto saxophone, instead.

If it's good enough for Mussorgsky, Ravel, and John Zorn, then it's damned sure good enough for me.
