I just heard a rap song I actually like!!!
I've never been a fan of rap. I don't necessarily hate it, but I wouldn't buy any of it, either.

Until now.

Realm.

"Welcome to Buckeye City"

Awesome.

5. I had a friend in college that LOVED them.
I don't mind them, either, but I don't like them like I do the above mentioned Realm song.

It should be the national anthem.

2. You know another great rap song?
Here's one that I love and that talks about current events:

Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love

This song is just incredible. I suggest that everyone listen to it.

8. Just saw that video yesterday!
I had never heard anything by the Black Eyed Peas before, but I know several Black Eyed Peas fans who claim to hate rap music, so I didn't change the channel when it came on, and it was fantastic! I've got half a mind to go buy their album.

10. I just downloaded it. Or rather, I tried.
The beginning sounds good, but it always screws up. ????

Not bad, what I heard. No "Welcome to Buckeye City," but not bad.

18. I had that same problem
Some of the copies on the file sharing services are crappy and the bitrate starts to change in the middle of the song. I would look for one that is around 5.21 Mb's large, that one should be fine.

29. It's my little brother's favorite
He is 12. When we visited, he was switching the radio until he found it. Then he would try to find it on another station. I've watched the video several times on Launch. I think it is a great song as well.

36. That song reminds me a lot of
Wussup Wit the Luv by Digital Underground. It's about ten years old so it's lyrics aren't as specifically current but it's a great song.

6. Yeah.
That's not bad. Good, even.

Also, the M&M song on his movie. I can't think of the name of it. Not a bad song.

Nothing, of course, compared to "Welcome to Buckeye City" by Realm.

Outkast
Mos Def
Gangstar
Jurasic Five
Outlandish

there are many other great hip hop artists out there that dont succumb to the corporate calling of negative rap, i.e. about bitches hoes, gangstars, guns, cheating, drugs, etc...

20. These days, I like lotsa rap
I used to hate it, only because I was only exposed to artists who just rapped about sex, drugs, and money.

Since then, I've been introduced to Public Enemy, Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Kool Herc, Dead Prez, and a lot of other great rap artists.

21. I usto like Rap
but now... it's all trashy and sounds the same the rap about the same shit. There are a few good ones still around but from the late 80's to the mid 90's was when rap was at it's best.

26. Don't give up on rap
Edited on Sun Aug-10-03 11:01 AM by theemu
Just don't rep for the mainstream. Rep for the underground with fantastic acts like Cannibal Ox, El-P, Aesop Rock, Mr. Lif, Murs, (all of whom are signed to the best label in rap music today, Def Jux) or great new alternative rap acts like Dizzee Rascal and the Streets (purveyors of the British garage-rap). Hell, even old-school white-girl feminist rap (in the form of Northern State) and Ivy-League Jewish rap (in the form of MC Paul Barman) have hit in the underground.

And to be honest, I think there's a lot of good out there in mainstream rap, especially in the production of The Neptunes and Timbaland - after all, before Missy Elliot's Get UR Freak On, when was the last time you heard bhangra beats on your top 10?

28. Yes, fabulous and very anti-Bush*
the song is great---and I don't care for rap at all--- but tremendously well done and the clips of the evil chimp it focuses around are devastating to him. The melody on the chorus is catchy too. Its around on the web if you search for Paris, what would you do.

33. I heard a rap song that didn't
make me want to break the tape/cd/speakers/player one time.

If I can remember that far back, I think it was called "The Super Bowl Shuffle."

35. Rap is a genre I haven't been able to appreciate
and I even saw KRS-One perform a set at a festival a few years ago -- I thought it sucked. Just reminded me of cheerleading for some reason.

But a couple of years ago I heard a track on a sample music CD that was a rap, and it kicked ass! It's one rap track that I can play over and over. I checked to see who it was -- sure enough, it was KRS-One. (Hopefully I'm spelling the name right.) I think the track was called "Get Yourself Up".

Not sure I could listen to whole album of rap, though. I just shrug, and realize that it's not aimed at me, anyway.

37. "Oh Yeah" by the Big Tymers is so bad it hurts...
The dude says a line and then these dudes go "Oh yeah" and then he says another. It is just so lazy.
Example:
I've got skins on my seats
Oh yeah!
24's on my feets
Oh yeah!
