What's up with the History Channel?
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 12:59 AM by Liberal_Lurker
This week it's Armageddon week. Last week featured The Seven Deadly Sins. Hell, right now they have the Bible Code on. While I find all of this interesting (thanks to my own persuasions) or at least amusing, why is it on the History Channel? Did they decide to respond to all of the complaints of nothing but WWII shows by airing nothing but quasi-religious and mythological shows?

1. They rarely do History, have you noticed?
I have seen two great shows there, one on France during the Revolution and I can't remember the other offhand. Otherwise, they're doing the kind of crap you're mentioning.

2. And what's worse is they're getting basic facts wrong.
When I was a kid I remember seeing a really good documentary on the Vietnam War on the History Channel. And I have a soft spot for their corny Barbarians series. I kinda miss them.

4. I missed that. Maybe they'll run it again.
Maybe they should change their name to something else as History Channel doesn't describe what they're showing 99% of the time.

3. It's been messed up for a long time
Reality shows about logging and driving on icy roads and "documentaries" about bigfoot, aliens and biblical prophecy? It used to be a default channel for me. Now I hardly ever watch it.

5. All cable channels have suffered similar fates over the past decade...
I remember when A&E had arts and entertainment programming and TV Land showed classic television shows, etc... They tried to broaden their appeal to mass audiences by putting on brainless programs and instead alienated the core audiences they were originally designed to appeal to.

7. Yup. America's Castles was one of their best shows.
AMC also used to be very good. During the good period they had no commercials. When the garbage commercials came, the quality of movies left.

AMC considers the entire stupid Rocky movie franchise and stupid slasher flicks as classic. What a FN joke. The AMC acronym should be changed to American Movie Crap.

6. I miss the Nazi Channel
When they used to show nothing but Hitler shows. Now the only thing I watch is The Universe.

9. Many shows get on air
From lobbyists or from other groups. If you read between the lines, the History chanel is not neutral in the corporate/people discussion.

Even a show I liked recently, had to get in a image of Ronald Regan and the wall coming down. They constantly seed little bits and pieces to guide popular thought.

LOL, one of the most interesting naval battles, Letti gulf, I have heard told three different ways, because each telling was meant to match current events, not the history of the event.

They use narration to tell stories of today, while talking about history.

10. I could even go further
I have heard total BS, lies, totaly contridictory about historical events.

It is like they are telling political stories today, masked in some historical story, and when they do this, they make up certain events.

I know of many occasions were they say things that are historically unsound, and that contridict what they said a few years ago, because they tell a tale in the narative that is suppose to speak about diffent factions today not about history.

Ever wonder why the old soviets use to say they had to decipher what was said on tv.
