What...you catch a ball? Woooooooooo! I can catch a football.

What...you run a play, you hit some guy? What...what's the big fucking deal. I can do that.

They act like you have to be some great athlete to do this stuff, but remember, you get a few seconds between plays to catch your breath.

Buncha overpaid whiners and pussies if you ask me.

20. Seriously, they are scary specimens
My brother has played pick-up hockey with guys on the University of New Hampshire team; this is like playing playground ball with the North Carolina starting lineup. Several of the guys have gone on to play professionally, and at that level, the speed, reflexes, and strength are just at a completely different level.

8. I don't doubt that you could do it once, maybe twice a week.
But to do it five days a week for practice: then to do it against people that aren't your team-mates, guys that don't give a good god damn whether or not you walk off the field or if you're carried off. That is a different story. Even if you could do that, do you honestly believe you could do that with forty to fifty thousand fans chanting against you? It's easy to sit on your ass and say that you could do it; but it's another thing to step up and live that moment week after week.

32. Sure, but as I've said...
the difference is that they can do it on a daily basis, against people that do it on a daily basis. Anybody can throw down in a pick-up game in their backyard. To do it over and over again against the best there is is what sets them apart from us. Anybody can sing karaoke in a bar, but to stand up in front of thousands and sing for four hours is an entirely different thing.

43. Let's see here
One in 15,000 young men who ever turn out for football make the NFL.

Fifty percent of the NFL draft choices wash out of the league -- in other words, they don't make the teams they're drafted for.

The average NFL career (for those who actually make a team) is four years. That's right. Four years. One must play ten seasons to qualify for an NFL pension.

The injury stats: One hundred percent of NFL players are injured during an average season. NFL players also seem to have an above-average pain tolerance; they're in pain most of the time.

When NFL players take the field, the game is exponentially faster than it is at the college level. In other words, it's put up or shut up time. On most college teams, there's one guy who's excellent; the rest are perhaps talented. EVERY guy on an NFL team is the "excellent" guy. The competition to stay on a team is brutal.

In the meantime, you can catch a football, huh? Please feel free to walk on at free agent day with any team in the league. I'll bet you don't make it more than five minutes.

Julie
