Sob! Summer's over!
The bugs are almost gone;
The chipmunks are beginning to race around;
I hear the acorns dropping on the roof;
The baby mallards have grown up and are learning to fly;
The trout are going deep to find the cold water;
The flies are getting lazy;
It's getting dark earlier;
My tomato plants are about to ripen.

Anyone else notice the signs of Fall? :-)

1. Eh?!? It's early August!
Still very dog-dayish, here.

Where you at?

:shrug:

3. I'm in southwestern New Hampshire.
It's hot and muggy here too but that can change in an instant. The signs I'm seeing come this time every year. Also, I can't help but remember that it snowed on May 18th up here this year. Where are you?

13. North Central NC
All I'm seeing are summertime thunderstorms in the afternoons, and wicked humidity during the days.

Probably about 3 weeks from now I'll start to see the kind of stuff you report. Summer almost always ends in late August here, then we frequently get "Indian summer" instead of the cooler, crisper "fall" in September.

21. The Humidity Has Been Brutal in Boston
Weeks of dewpoints in the mid-70s. Not as hot temperature-wise as last summer, but more miserable humidity-wise.

The students are moving back. I really enjoy the city in the summer when they're all away!

37. Southeastern NH here
and this has been a glorious summer, even the last few weeks of Ark inspiring rain... I haven't had a bad weather complaint yet.

Our tomatoes are rich and thich and green. Soon though they will be ready.

So Raven, when do you think this year's snow season will begin? I say Labor Day.

I have dead headed most of my flower garden. The black eyed Susans and coneflowers are still going fine and the Asters are about to bloom , and the mums can't be far behind

The grasses are all getting seed heads

There are hardly any butterflies and dragonflies

All of the lakers are heading home

5. I'm with you! Them and their jet skis!
I forgot about the dragonflies! When I was a kid, I was absolutely petrified of those things...especially the big ones. I have since learned that they eat other annoying bugs and that, dispite their daunting looks, they are harmless. Now, when I'm sitting outside, they come and lite on me...and they stay awhile. They are beautiful colors and I think, four sets of eyes (unless my vision is bad!).

16. Not bloody likely, alas!
I suspect you *don't* live in Florida.

We've got at least two months to go before we can step outside with risking either heat-stroke or some nasty mosquito-born virus. If you want a preview of what Global Warming means for rest of you, come visit us in mid-August. It's neither pleasant nor pretty.

I am in Jacksonville. (NE part of the state.) When we are not getting drenched with heavy rains, we are getting drenched with sweat from all the heat and humidity.

I don't really like the summer. I like autumn.

Kids back in school, moderate temps. Summer is my least favorite season.

25. It's been raining here for almost 2 weeks.
We are under a flood watch today. We got 6" of rain yesterday. My dogs are perpetually wet. I've got tomato plants that are over 5 feet tall with lots of green, juicy fruit that will never ripen at this rate. I could have done without this summer!

31. You guys don't really have a Fall, do you.
My absolute favorite time of the year. The air is crisp and the colors are just wonderful up here. You can still bake in the sun. Everything seems so fresh, which is funny since it is the dying time of year.

32. Actually, our winter would pass for fall most other places.
We don't get much leaf color change, either. Our leaves go from green to dead. :-(

Now, spring in Texas can't be beat. Sunny, but cool, there are a bazillion wildflowers around - everything smells fresh.

I lived in NC and Alabama for a while. In NC the leaves did change but in Ala they just expired! I guess I'd trade our winter for your winter!

35. It won't be the end of summer here until the end of September
but every transplanted Californian moans and groans every time we get a cloudy day, "What happened to our summmmmmmmer?" Makes me wanna slap 'em every single time. You'd think I'd be used to it by now. I mean, who would move to Seattle and complain that it was often cloudy? Like moving to Phoenix and complaining that it's too often hot. :eyes:

38. When the pre-season football games start..
I know that fall isn't far away. Football and fall - I love them! Still seems like summer here, though - there's a mental line I have at Labor Day. Once we get to Labor Day, I consider summer over. If I was still in school, it would be the first day of school if earlier than Labor Day. Here, kids go back August 27.
