I'm officially old. Dentist says I need a partial.

The first step toward dentures. Of course, maybe dentures are less trouble than teeth. Still, I have a 104 year old parishioner who doesn't have dentures.

So, I'm feeling old.

1. And we're as old as we feel.

Sorry that you're being nagged by symptoms, and hoping that you feel better soon

2. A tooth fell apart. Just behind the last tooth that fell apart.
For some reason, the left side of my lower jaw just has bad teeth. The farthest back molar is okay, apparently, but the three teeth in front of it are now missing. The dentist says I'm lucky to have that back molar as an anchor for the partial. Apparently, dentures or partials without an "anchor tooth" in the back can cause a whole new set of problems.

I'm tired of dealing with these teeth. So, I'm ready to see how life functions without 'em.

7. Heya! I'm glad that you did the name change you wanted.
The forum will be a bit easier to navigate once the signature texts and images return (I'll likely be keeping the ice crystal, which is an easy association).

:hi:

4. My theory is
People are better off without teeth. The dental profession tells us that periodontal disease can lead to heart problems and other bad stuff.

I have many relatives who lived well into their nineties. However, they all had false teeth, therefore, no periodontal disease related health problems.

Of course, if we all opted for false teeth, the dental profession would go broke. It's all a conspiracy, I tell you...

8. I'm absolutely convinced that orthodontia is quackery.
My dentist says most of my problems are the result of decay or erosion (seems like there's some other word he uses, but basically, caused by the braces rubbing on the enamel of my teeth) that started while I was wearing braces. And my teeth slipped back into their bad positions after I finished with the braces. Yet, I can still eat with my crooked teeth. The braces did more harm than good.

But both the dentist and orthodontist at the time said I JUST HAD to have them! :grr:

11. I've had dentures for over 10 years and been happy with them...
the only downsides I've had are if they fall out at the wrong time, possibly breaking but more likely just causing great emabarassment, or getting seeds and other hard things stuck under them. Cleaning them is a pain, but far less of a pain than proper brushing and flossing.

Other than that, I haven't had the pain and infections that I used to have, or the monstrous dental bills dealing with them. I can eat just about anything, even the oft-mentioned apples and corn on the cob. Never could crack walnuts or open beer bottles with my real teeth, either, so there's no downside there.

13. just the glue and the cleaning...and getting used to them...
but they are FAR better than my rotten teeth were. i suppose the hardest part was learning how to smile again- i hadn't done it for awhile due to horrid dental health.

12. How many teeth for the partial?
I've got two missing in some key places so partial might be for me... but then implants may be in the future too (depending on how much $ I have to spare).

Too many missing teeth for implants?

Mark.

14. I have one missing tooth
after three botched root canals, and a crown, which eventually had to be removed from said tooth. I coulda bought a whole set of handsome choppers for what I wasted on one tooth!

16. I'm 37, and just had my first fillings a month ago. They got the children's drill for me because I
had never had work done on my teeth. It's not your age, it's your genes.
