Any Fans of HBO's "Big Love" Here?
It's all the wackiness of religion...times three (and maybe times four this season).

5. I love "Big Love" - I'd be wife #4 if the husband was going to be Bill Paxton
of course we'd have to dump Nikki - that girl is crazy. I was not shocked at all when I found out what she was doing - typical Nikki. Her values are so out of whack it's crazy.

I like how they have an arc about the "lost boys". People scream about what happens to the girls in these FLDS clans but hardly ever a mention about how boys are dumped along the side of the road because there are too many extra boys and never enough girls.

6. Actually they aren't "dumped"
Most leave of their own accord when they're adults, but hey, folks are going to believe what they want to believe....

and if you don't think mainstream society also dumps its teens (boys & girls), check into why Nebraska had to change its Baby Moses law....

7. I realize that but NY times did a major article about what was happening to some of these boys
Edited on Mon Jan-26-09 02:18 PM by LynneSin
and they were 'dumped'. Some call it expulsion others say they 'left on their own accords' but were pressured to leave by the elders. And these were NOT adults. Perhaps not all polygamist groups have done this practice but it has been done. And although I would not use a fictional TV series as a basis for this comment I would use a major article in the New York Times Sunday Magazine.

8. Money is a good reason
for people to make up all kinds of allegations. I'd look a bit more closely at Dan Fisher & his "Diversity" charity if I were you, but you might not like what you see.

10. I used that link because it had the story from the New York Times
Not everything is black or white - there's a giant middle out there.

15. And notice the NYT hasn't followed up on that story

9. Nikki cracked me up last night.
When Margene remarked that the date didn't go so well according to Ana, Nikki said "What's she complaining about? She got the front seat and unlimited refills!"
Nikki's standards for romance are tragically low...
She's also a sneaky little minx whose loyalty to Bill is in severe conflict with her loyalty/need for approval from Roman. This little foray into the DA's office is going to cause major blowback for the family - the Hendrickson family.
I love this show and thought the writer's strike would kill me. It's must see TV.

11. Nikki makes that show worth watching - you just love to hate her
And the sad thing is, it's not really Nikki's fault but the years of upbringing on that compound.

13. Adaleen is perfect as her mother.
I loved the little heart to heart they had last night about Nikki's "duty" to pop out kid after kid for Bill. Adaleen always calls Nicolette on her bullshit and Mary Kay Place rocks as Momma to Alby and Nikki. Mary Kay Place has had my heart since "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman." She could read the phone book and I would crack up!

14. It's the only show worth watching right now.
With Dexter done until next year and The Tudors not coming back until May it's the only game in town. Very good show.

Barb's face at the end of last night's episode was great.

Crazy bad family dysfunction big time!

Nikkie's mother Adaleen cracks me up with her dry matter-of-fact pragmatism. Her half brother is really creepy. Bill's mother and father are hilarious in their murderous relationship and everyone just takes it for granted, like it's normal to constantly try to kill each other. Bill's bother is pretty normal but his brother's wife is freaking bonkers yet no one does anything about it even though she almost killed Bill's father. It's great stuff!

Nikkie's father is pretty creepy too, and kind of slimy.

William Faulkner would be proud of those characters!

We know all about Nikkie's family and some about Barb's but nothing at all about Margeen's. I wish they would give her some background. It isn't until now that she's beginning to get some character development and for the first time.
