2. Nice call there, RE !
That record must hold the NY record for most oblique, bizarre and in-joke references. Crazy, ain't it? And throwaway madness/genius like "It's a cold bowl of chili when love lets you down/But it's the neighbor's wife I'm after."

Really nice to meet you. Post your thought on this work of genius or any others, OK?

:hi:

3. "Bite The Bullet," one of the greatest "attitude" songs in his catalog.
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 10:34 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
"Like A Hurricane" was available for years on CD on "Decade"...

...the reason why I anxiously awaited "American Stars & Bars" on CD...even though I still own the vinyl original...was for the song "Bite The Bullet."

Anyone who knows the song knows that the bullet he's talking about isn't a bullet.

"Carolina Queen, she's a walkin' love machine, I like to make her scream when I bite the bullet"...

...with Linda Ronstadt and the late Nicolette Larson blasting out the "BITE THE BULLET" background vocal refrain...

...and a super-distorto solo choked out of "Old Black"...

It's Neil & Crazy Horse (with the addition of Ben Keith on steel guitar) plus Linda & Nicolette and it doesn't get much better than this.

4. A late buddy of mine swore by "tonight's the night"
and would try to duplicate the tequila haze of production playing a side

"they say he had bullet holes in his mirror

..he was a friend of yours"

The phrasing on that black and white rehab visit of an album beats anything sinatra ever tried

Been fifteen years-rip tony!
