2. I am hoping that Milk takes best picture.
I know Slumdog Millionaire is considered the favorite to win, but I think Milk still has a chance and I am hoping it can pull it off.

4. I will take the lazy mans way out, and x-post my response to the unofficial thread

My main prediction (of which I am certain): Have Kleenex Handy. Tears will likely be shed - between the widely presumed posthumous acceptance for Ledger, and the "In Memoriam" segment, at which time Oscar wil tip its hat for the final time to (among many other fine performers and filmmakers): Heath Ledger, Sydney Pollack, Anthony Minghella, Van Johnson, Bernie Mac, George Carlin, Estelle Getty, Ollie Johnston (one of the great Disney animators), Roy Scheider, Paul Scofield, Suzanne Pleshette, and Paul Newman.

5. I like your predictions Scooter, with one exception.
I think Mickey Rourke is going to take best actor. Hollywood loves a comeback story and Sean Penn was a recent Best Actor winner for Mystic River. I don't have time to pick all of the categories so here are the big ones.

Best Picture- Slumdog Millionaire
Directing- Slumdog Millionaire
Actor- Mickey Rourke
Actress- Kate Winslet
Supporting Actor- Heath Ledger
Supporting Actress- Penelope Cruz

I'd prefer to see Viola Davis win supporting actress but I don't think her role was big enough to beat out Penelope.

7. The Lead Acting categories were the hardest for me to pick this year.
because there were so many strong performances. It all comes down to the preference of the voting block and who we think they will vote for. I gave Penn the edge simply because of his recent SAG award.

8. I agree with your reasoning. I think the SAG is a good predictor.
I guess I'm just kind of rooting for Rourke as the underdog.

10. My picks ... I love Oscar night
I feel confident about most of these picks (apart from the Best Live Action Short and similar awards) but Best Actor could really go to Penn or Rourke. I would love to see either win. The other difficult category for me is Best Supporting Actress, and I think there's a chance for something unusual to happen like a Viola Davis win even though her screen time was so brief (but still powerful). I enjoyed Taraji P. Henson's performance very much as well.

Anyone else see the Slumdog Millionaire child actors on the Red Carpet? So cute and glad they made the trip. :D

Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire
Best Actor: Mickey Rourke
Best Actress: Kate Winslet
Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger
Best Supporting Actress: Viola Davis
Best Animated Feature: WALL-E
Best Achievement in Art Direction: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Best Achievement in Cinematography: Slumdog Millionaire
Best Achievement in Costume Design: Australia
Best Achievement in Directing: Danny Boyle for Slumdog Millionaire
Best Documentary Feature: Man on Wire
Best Documentary Short Subject: The Conscience of Nhem En
Best Achievement in Film Editing: The Dark Knight
Best Foreign Language Film: Waltz with Bashir
Best Makeup: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Best Original Score: Slumdog Millionaire
Best Original Song: Jai Ho
Best Animated Short Film: Oktapodi
Best Live Action Short Film: Manon on the Asphalt
Best Sound Editing: The Dark Knight
Best Sound Mixing: The Dark Knight
