Where can I buy a box of disposable iron skillets?
they are a major PITA to clean.

it would be easier to keep some clean ones on hand since i'm told they cook really good.

if only stuff didn't stick to them so easily. :wtf: :eyes:

also, do they make teflon coated iron skillets?

4. They have to be seasoned to cook well

and the older they are the better so you wouldn't really benefit from disposable ones.

5. Don't clean them.
Seriously. Get a wire brush (or something really abrasive), use some very hot water and scrub, then put a coat of oil on the surface to season and store.

I have an iron skillet that's about 40 years old so it's been seasoned really well. Even though stuff sticks, the wire brush gets it off.

Try it! :hi:

8. I was just wondering.....
How much would a box of disposable skillets weigh? A box of 20? When you're done, you can sell the used ones to China. ;-)

19. Ya ever see those tool companies that pull into town in their big trucks
and set up shop for two or three days at a local VFW or American Legion? They usually have sets of iron skillets (designed for camping) and are cheaply priced. We got a set and they have been a fine product.

20. We clean ours with kosher salt and a terrycloth washcloth -
The way my great-grandmother did her's...
Heat pan, put in about a cup or so of kosher salt, and scrub until the cooked on goop comes loose. Rinse pan, check to see it's clean, if not, repeat and rinse.
Dry immediatly. Put a light coating of oil on bottom, heat pan, and wipe clean with paper cloth (No ShamWows!)
Your terry washcloth will become black after several uses and won't wash clean, you'll need to toss it after the smell just won't wash out...
My mother in law cleans her antique ones passed down to her by hand with a scrubbing pad at the tail end of the normal washing. The trick is always is to dry them immediatly, never let them sit in water or just set out to air dry.
