The beagle is home!!! Yay!!!

She's home and resting, but has been playing with the cats a little already. The vet said she had hemorrhagic (sp?) gastroenteritis, which is apparently fairly common, but they don't always know what causes it, so they like to observe dogs who have it. That's why she had to stay at the vet's. He said antibiotics are used as a precaution, but he didn't send any meds home with her. Told me to slowly return her to her regular diet, and to keep an eye on her poop. If it's bloody again, I should call the clinic right away, but he thinks she'll probably be fine. If she has diarrhea without blood, I should also call him, and he'll probably put her on probiotics to replace good bacteria in her system. But he said her feces at the clinic have been okay, so he thinks she's over it now. Thank God! He said most dogs have one instance of this, with no clear cause, and it never happens again.

So, things are back to normal. Thanks for the vibes.

Oh, and the vet said she worked so hard at making a nest with the Scooby blankie last night that she kept banging against the side of the cage, making this terrible noise. He said the vet techs who were at the clinic to take care of the animals at "bedtime" were still laughing about it this morning. That's the beagle! She loves the Scooby blanket!

I'm so happy for you and for the beagle. Plus I didn't want to go to bed until I heard that this pooch was okay. What a bizarre and alarming event, though ... The complications of her nesting in the Scooby blanket cracked me up. :D
