6. That was one of the few I have seen outside of the zoo.
It was so bizarre. It was like he was trying to keep up with the car. Where is the camcorder when this shit goes down?

22. I have at least one large owl that I assume lives in the nearby woods.
On numerous occasions I have been out during the day with my camera stalking bugs when I walked under a tree. All the sudden there's a rustling/whooshing sound and a huge shadow flies over.

Never fails to startle the hell out of me.

2. Once I heard two of them "talking" and it soon

became obvious it was a hooty booty call. I mean, I was embarrassed to be listening in but they were outside my window.

21. Does That Line Work on Other Owls?
Probably not. That's why it's hooting and not getting busy.

11. I love owls, too.
My 3 year old daughter and I were out today and we kept hearing "hoo, hoo" and she was asking what is that....and I told her I thought it was doves---the mourning doves. Too early to be owls.

18. One time a screech owl flew into the side of

my husband's truck. It was late at night and he was going by the woods near our house and heard this "thump!" So he stopped and went back with a flashlight and found this little owl, lying on its back with its legs up in the air, like in the cartoons. He put on his leather work gloves and carefully picked up the owl and put it in the camper back of the truck. By the time he got home, about five minutes later, the little guy was kind of staggering around in the truck. We each held him briefly and took a couple of photos and then I opened my hands and the owl flew off without a sound. I'd always heard that they flew silently but now I know for sure. It really deserved the word "awesome."

20. Aren't they cool? I have one in my front tree. Maybe more than one.
Been there the whole time I've lived here. But I've never seen it. I just hear it at night. It's a very comforting sound, for some reason.

23. The only owls I ever heard hoot
were hooting at me in derision. I get plenty of respect, but not from owls.

24. zOMG, I love owls. Is it a barred owl?
Is it? Is it?

Have you ever heard one of those laugh their maniacal laughter?

I have. It is an experience I'll never forget.

Years ago, I was outside on a cold night in early spring. I was playing with my cats in their outdoor playpen I had built for them at the old house. I was inside the playpen with them and kept hearing just the regular call of a barred owl.

All of a sudden, I heard that maniacal cackling laughter they do sometimes and it flew right over my head. All I saw was white feathers. It was HUGH!!!1!(elevens)! I'm series!

zOMG, I loved it! I loved it! I don't know why it lifted my spirits like it did, but it did. IT was so freaking beautiful. I love barred owls!

Sorry for the manic crazy happiness at talking about them. I do love them.
