Poll question: What is your opinion about Canada ?
In the last 6-7 days I saw some pretty nasty comments about Canada.

But what I would like to know is what's you're opinion ?

You can vote in the poll but I would like to read personal

opinions or anecdotes.

OK.So What is your opinion about Canada ?

group like the Canadian Rangers are still operating. They aer not really military are they? I thought they were like a roving police force type of thing up in the north woods.
I am interested in the military to a degree - I was in the 82d Airborne back in the 1960's when I was young and invincible. Now I find myself old and gimpy.

About the Canadian Rangers:

The Canadian Rangers are part-time reservists who provide a military presence in remote, isolated and coastal communities of Canada. Formally established in 1947, Canadian Rangers are responsible for protecting Canada's sovereignty by reporting unusual activities or sightings, collecting local data of significance to the Canadian Forces, and conducting surveillance or sovereignty patrols as required.

Some of the cops assigned to the Gay Village patrol are obviously gay, and nobody gives them crap about it.

I can deduct any unreimbursed medical costs from my taxes, including medical marijuana. I can also deduct transit passes.

People in the waiting room at the free clinic don't get up every 5 minutes to complain to the front desk that it's taking too f*cking long.

Dem peeps can't drive worth a shite, but *damn!* they queue in a civilized manner wherever a line occurs (metro, theater, etc.)

I could go on, but even the s.o. has admitted we're better off here than in the States. And this winter wasn't bad at all.

Winters in Canada are not that bad-- especially in Ontario and the Maritime Provinces. Hell, I'd take a Vancouver winter over a Minnesota winter any day.

Canada's alright. I wouldn't mind living there some day myself. As filmmaker Michael Moore put it, "it's like America, but without the stupidity".

It was fairly entertaining to watch the news from south of the border, where everybody in NY freaks out the minute it snows, and up here the most panicky thing that happened was the street plow guys went on strike for 3 hours in December. When the city heard their case and realized they had not in fact got paid in weeks, the city made good on paychecks *and* gave everybody a day off so they'd be fresh and rested two days later when the next salvo hit.

We didn't have anywhere near the freakish amount of snow that fell in Montreal our last winter in the States.

29. Awesomely epic surfing in Manitoba (for real)
Just google "Sturgeon Falls" and "Whitmeud Falls." I was there when the levels were pretty average/humdrum and I got seemingly endless rides on toally stable 6 and 7 foot waves day after day. Woot.

Aside from that, I'd say I'm fairly positive aon Canada, but being a lone American travelling internationally who is surrounded by a bunch af Canadians can be a drag--it's like they see their chance to tell all of America how they feel, and get a little pay back (for something or other.)

So yeah, good, but not perfect.

and stuff about the Iraq War too, but more out of genuine bafflement and curiousity about what goes on down here. i told them i didn't know and that my region was almost uniformly against the war and Bush (The Bay Area). some of them said, "well Northern California is not really like the US anyway, we don't consider it much different from Canada :D  "

but even those who complained about the US did it politely and inquisitively. i don't think i've ever had a bad experience with a Canadian, well one of the French ones once... :eyes: :hide: "

the only "bad" run in I had with a Canadian was with a lady who was a naturalized Scot. I was on a tiny rock in the middle of the Pacific calloed Rarotonga and I just don't knowwhat her problem was. I suppose I didn't sufficently grovel about her adopted home--the zeal of the convert and all that!

So I finally just started tweaking her by playing the part of the "arrogant American" it seemed like that was what she was expecting.

If you're in the Twin Cities, KSTP had a feature on north shore Lake Superior surfing on Sunday's "On The Road". They had some serious waves, too-- over 10' high.

Of course, it was in March during a Nor'Easter, but it was still pretty cool.

57. A lot of my buddies go surfing then--in their boats. I've met on eor two of the board guys, but
we're not really tight with them. The cool thing about the stuff in Manitoba is the waves come from where two lakes meet--with about a five foot elevation difference. Where the higher lake dumps in to the lower massive and STABLE waves form. Unlike an ocean wave they never hit shore, they just sit there, bein' all awesome and stuff.

Went there a few times as a kid (Ontario and the Maritimes) and couple times as an adult (BC, Alberta) and generally speaking, Canadians are pleasant, restrained, put you at ease with mild quips here and there and they are fairly quiet.

you can be in big cities surrounded by people and it's still fairly quiet! in the US you can be in a diner with 10 people and not hear yourself think!

and not to mention, Canada is beautiful. The coast and mountains of British Columbia, the Rockies in Alberta, Nova Scotia's Cape Breton, just wow.

absolutely love Canada. except my connection to this areas family and friends, would move there in a heartbeat.

So's John Candy, and Eugene Levy, and a whole mess of other famous people.

And "As It Happens" is part of my usual 10-11pm weeknight radio listening schedule.

61. Lived in Canada for 7 years; still kicking myself in the ass for moving back to the States.
I hope to undo that someday and move back. It's real easy to go native there.

67. I grew up just 60 miles south of Alberta.
I like that part of Canada because it is the same climate and geography of Montana.

72. Canada is great!
If it were not for Canada, Bemidji State would not have a hockey team going to the Frozen Four. Canada also gave me the love of watching Curling.
