Blind Willie Johnson went into space?

I knew Chuck Berry did but did not know about Blind Willie. (I am only know getting caught up on the later seasons of the West Wing; I drifted away from the series after Sorkin left.)

Johnson's recordings and legacy have crossed over into other media and cultural contexts. Dark Was The Night, Cold Was the Ground was included on the Voyager Golden Record, sent into space with the Voyager spacecraft in 1977; this piece was used in the widely seen science show Cosmos: A Personal Voyage by Carl Sagan in 1980.<5> This recording also got Johnson mentioned on an episode of the television series The West Wing (see "The Warfare of Genghis Khan"); the fictional Deputy White House Chief of Staff Josh Lyman used Johnson's recording to show the depth and soul behind the space program. 1. Blind Willie is so fucking awesome and I'm glad to hear his music was on the Voyager.

I am embarrassed to admit that it was Led Zeppelin ("Nobody's Fault but Mine") that turned me on to him. He's also in the cover art of their second album (my personal favorite).

Amazing to think that Chuck Berry and Blind Willie could survive the eventual end of the Earth. But Mr. ET is going to think that we were incredibly retarded idiot freepers. We don't even have CDs!
