Guiding Light, the oldest show on TV (72 years) has been cancelled
I feel bad, I use to watch Guiding Light all the time but with a day job it's hard to keep up with the Soap Operas anymore

GL Canceled!
Soap Opera Digest has learned that the cast and crew of GUIDING LIGHT were notified today that yes, the 72-year-old show has been canceled and will turn out the light on Sept. 18. "Being on the air for more than seven decades is truly remarkable, and it will be difficult for all of us at the show to say goodbye," said Executive Producer Ellen Wheeler in a statement. "I'm proud of everything we’ve been able to do, including outstanding storytelling, our community service around the country with Find Your Light and the launch of our new production model. This show has such a rich history, wonderful fans, and I'm honored to have been a part of the GL legacy."

Adds GH Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps, who helmed GL from 1991-95: "GUIDING LIGHT has a very special place in my heart. I began my career in daytime there as a production assistant and later returned as executive producer. It was a privilege (both times) to be a part of such a fabulous group of people who did such outstanding work. Some of the most talented actors, writers and directors have walked through the doors of GUIDING LIGHT. The industry will mourn the loss of this beloved show, but GUIDING LIGHT leaves a rich legacy for all of us in daytime to treasure. I wish all my dear friends a gentle landing."

with a talk show, or a game show

THIS is an improvment??

The soap opera audience is getting older and they want to appeal to a younger audience :scared: :scared:

I grew up with GL . I used to hurry home from school so I could watch Guiding Light and As The World Turns .

I think GL s just the first to fall--the era of the soap is coming to its end . We viewers are dying off slowly but surely

I will miss Reva , Josh , Billy, Allen and the disfunctional gang

6. GL was your mom', your grandmother's, even your great grandmother's soap
It has had a venerable run.

When I was a kid it was 15 minutes long, and shared the hour with Love of Life, Search for Tomorrow and The Brighter Day. That was my mom's TV hour.

I followed it for quite a while until it got blocked opposite one I liked better.

I think (not sure) that 'Another World' started with some GL characters to bring those fans over to Another World, then AW spun off Somerset, which died after about 8 years. When AW cancelled, some of those characters went to As the World Turns for a while.

I still miss Another World.
