Writing checks. How do you do the line where you write out the amount in words?
Anyone else translate $92.00 as the following?

Ninety two dollars and no/cents

My husband thinks that my way of writing checks makes no/sense. :P

1. I would write it Ninety-two dollars and 00/cents...
Edited on Fri Apr-03-09 06:22 PM by Left Is Write
but no/cents is also fine and correct and accepted. Tell your husband he is no-sensical.

ETA that if I were in a hurry, I'd probably write Ninety-two and 00/cents.

That's all that really matters.

And I write it ninety-two and 00/100 ------------

5. As far as I know they do. I only just wrote my first checks in about 15 years. LOL But
I write my money orders and cashier's checks like that and have never had anyone say they want me to do them over, so I guess it's all good. :)

Horribly dependent upon electronic methods of payment...oh, and still resort to the antiquated method of cash if absolutely necessary. Seriously though. I cannot remember the last check I wrote.

23. Why use the / at all?
It only makes sense if you're writing a fraction (like 00/100). If you don't want to write it as a fraction "no cents" would be more correct.

29. Since checks usually (always?) have the word "Dollars" pre-printed...
at the end of that line, there's no reason to write "dollars".

You write "ninety-two and 00/100" before the pre-printed word "dollars".

"Ninety-two dollars and 00/100" makes sense logically, but writing "dollars" is redundant.

The thing that drives me crazy is when people write something like
"Ninety-two dollars and 13/100 cents". The bank can't pay anyone 13/100 of a cent and it isn't what the person means anyway.

Money orders around here go for $2.50 a piece. So I am stuck writing a check every once in a while. don't know how the tellers can read it, but they always do.

It's all numbers in one spot, all words in the other. I usually have to write write over the /100 to fit it in. It's the way I was taught to do it.

I do it different ways, but I won't reveal how I make sure they cannot change that line to a different number. Let's just say if you can come up with your own method of making damn sure no one can add more to your amount, you will be slightly better off in case anyone tries any funny stuff. It becomes like a signature even more than your signature. The bank will call you if you DON'T do it that just one time after they get used to it.

Your way just sounds like your way to me. No biggie. Makes sense to me.
