Anybody here read "Ender's Game"?
I just read the short story, and it fucking kicked ass! I can't wait to get the book series and read them!

1. Yes. I like it, too, although the rest of the series isn't nearly as good
and Orson Scott Card is a fundie, right-wing nutcase.

6. Seconded
And I was sad but not surprised when I decided to do my due diligence about the author.

2. I did one about 10 years ago
Intesting concept. Makes me feel important when I'm playing first-person shooters... :-)

3. I used to love Orson Scott Card's books.
Now I will not read or buy them. He is an uptight, vicious homophobe.

4. The first book is great.
I say that about all of OSC's series. He tends to lose his way. Ender's Game is a book I reread nearly every year though.

5. You should be aware
The author's interpretation is different than yours. :(

8. don't bother -
the rest of the series totally sucked -

And, if you really really think about it - the premise of Ender's Game is pretty sick, too. . . .

OSC is a complete ultra rightwing whackjob with a "Christ-complex". He has some very bizarre and disturbing themes that run throughout his books.

9. Ender's Game suffers from the same problem as Sword of Truth.
Good first book with an interesting premise that devolves into a heaping pile of shit because the author starts preaching at you.

11. One of my favorite books in high school
and Speaker for the Dead wasn't that bad but OSC is a bad, bad human being (as pointed out repeatedly upthread) so I would buy the books secondhand or get them from the library to avoid giving him any extra money. Or you can read almost all of it free here:
