I have a new favorite band
And what's really cool about it is that they have 8 other albums out that I have yet to hear, plus a new one coming out in June. I love it when that happens. I've been jamming to Dream Theater's Systematic Chaos for the past couple of weeks and it just keeps getting better. They are a progressive rock band. They get a lot of attention by people interested in that kind of music, but not so much on the radio. In fact, they have a compilation album out called "Our Greatest Hit and 21 Other Songs That Are Pretty Cool" :D They got some air time on radio and MTV back in the early 90s with a song called "Pull Me Under" but haven't had much success commercially since then. They do quite well without it, though. They just don't make many radio-friendly songs. Here's a song from Systematic Chaos called "Forsaken." At five and a half minutes it's the shortest song on the album.

1. Dream Theater
Welcome to a new world!:) Pick up Images and Words when you get a chance. These are master musicians as far as I'm concerned. The singer has a little too much classical hint to his voice IMHO but is still damn good. Anything they put out is good. John Petrucci off the chain the Camel "drummer" and the bass player are tops in their field.

2. I HIGHLY recommend Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory

They put this out in '99, and IMO it's their best album. It's a concept album dealing with reincarnation, forbidden love and murder.

Wiki:
The album is the sequel to "Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper", a song previously featured on Images and Words. Critical and commercial reaction to the album was extremely favorable, as many fans and critics alike view the album as the band's masterpiece. It was also the first album to feature Jordan Rudess on keyboards, and the last album (as yet) for which John Myung has written lyrics for a song.

3. I think "Guitar Hero: World Tour" may gain them some new young fans.
"Pull Me Under" is featured in the game.

5. Thanks for posting
It's good to see with bands like this and Porcupine Tree that prog didn't go away with Genesis.
