Need help-advice on DVD player. -No disc error.
I have a JVC DVD player and lately half the dvd's I put in there come up as "No disc". I clean the dvd's and still get the errors, I rented "Marley & me" on the first day it came out on DVD and it showed a no disc error.

I can put that same dvd in my computer & it plays perfectly. I have used my lens cleaning disc on the dvd and it does nothing to help. I have a LOT of animals in the house so I am wondering if I should take the dvd player apart & try cleaning it? Is it time to get another cheap dvd player? I think I only paid 30 bucks for this one, I've had it for a couple of years & I wonder if its worn out? The tray gets stuck when it is told to close, maybe a lot of dog hair inside?

Any ideas on what to do?

1. I have one of those Go Video decks with a VCR on one side
and a DVD player on the other. I've tried a disc cleaner for the machine, cleaned all my discs. I have the same problem. Every single one of these DVDs play on both my computer and the other DVD player, but not the Go Video player.

I'm going to bookmark this one in case a solution shows up.

3. I had the same problem with my Go Video combo player,

Jamastiene.

Disk cleaner helped for a while, but the problem is back.

I'm bookmarking this too.

2. there's probably a lot of dander and hair in there, possibly in critical spots
Especially if it was a cheapie, it may not have the error correction of better models.

If you can afford it, find a blu-ray player rather than just a regular DVD player. You'll be ready for the eventual switch over, and they must use more powerful lasers in Blu-Ray because mine will play battered library DVDs (standard ones) that my regular DVD player can't manage.

Taking it someplace for repair will cost more than replacement, so I'd say you have nothing to lose by trying to get in there with a compressed air can (dust-off) and clearing out the dust and crud. Just be sure to unplug it and careful of shock hazards (do they put capacitors in DVD players like they do old tube TVs?).

You might look online for a PDF of the owner's manual or even a service manual for your model, as that might have some other clues.

Good luck!

4. You have nothing to lose by cleaning it
I'd open it up and blast the mechanism with one of those cans of compressed air they sell for cleaning cameras and computer gear. That might fix it. On the other hand, if it's a cheap unit that's seen plenty of use, it's certainly possible that it's getting worn out.

5. From the limited detail, it sounds like the laser assembly is baked. That's the most common issue
when cleaning doesn't help. It'd be cheaper to replace the player rather than try to fix it with a new dvd drive.
