As many of you know, I have been rendered legally blind in my left eye due to several retina operations and permanent damage to the optic nerve.
I am trying to adjust, and it
is coming -
slowly, so I guess I can't complain too much. I do a lot of reading, and that can be a pain because I have to keep the left eye closed and I have some fair sized floaters in my right eye. When they float in front of my reading, I just blink until they float away ... sort of like when I'm sitting in the recliner watching TV and the cat decide to jump up and lie down on my chest right under my chin LOL
I can see with my left eye, that is, get an image ... just not an image of what's actually there ... just enough to mess up what I am seeing with my right eye and throw everything off - I fall down a lot! LOL
Some of my students and friends have asked "why don't you just wear an eye patch?" Well, there are a couple of things - only one really, but I am predisposed to come up with complications LOL
- I still have to wear glasses for my right eye (no, a contact won't work) AND (this is really the big thing)
the eye patches I have been able to find at the drugstore are ill fitting, the elastic strap hits wrong, the patch slips around, is hot causing excessive perspiration, and they are annoying.
So, being the craftsy person that I am/used to be LOL , using some black craft foam left over from when I made am Abraham Lincoln outfit for a class history presentation (that's another tale), some scotch tape, scissors, and
several high power magnifying devices, I set out to create an eye patch that would fit comfortably beneath the left lens of my glasses that I could easily remove.
Here is an picture of an early prototype eye patch. It was suggested that I put a skull and crossbones on it, but I have come up with something else for my first attempt. What say ye?
