Kid Rock, for crying out loud!
Edited on Sun Apr-05-09 01:46 PM by madeline_con
Using a remake of Sweet Home Alabama, with a few lines about making out with some chic thrown in to make it seem "new"? :eyes:

Did you have to put Warren Zevon's Werewolves of London opening in it?! Come on!

Have you heard of Milly Vanilly, you non original little toad?

1. He's just ripping off P. Diddy is all
Except he's a bigger redneck. But not by much.

2. The people who like that song
have never heard of Zevon or Skynyrd. I'm sure Kid Rock is counting on that. The good thing about sampling now days is that whoever is lifting some riffs has to pay the original artists.

6. Not true. I like it and I've alway been a Skynyrd fan
Of course, it is the only Kid Rock song I have ever heard that I liked.

3. He said he was going to change his tune.
move away from rap. But he is still ripping off riffs and entire songs.

4. *sigh*
You mean his 15 minutes are not up yet? When will they ever be up. I want to forget he ever existed. I can't do that as long as he won't go a-way. :eyes:

5. My problem is neither the sampling nor what was sampled, but instead...
the premise of the lyrics.

OK, let's think this one through for a moment.

It's supposed to have been the summer of 1989, according to the lyrics, and they sang "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long....

NOT!

If he'd have said 1979, I'd have said "OK, that makes sense". "Sweet Home Alabama" hit " 8 on the charts in '74, but I can attest that it remained immensly popular through the mid and late 70s.

hits of 1989 included such wonders as...

"When I See You Smile" — Bad English 4:21
"Eternal Flame" — The Bangles 3:57
"Sowing the Seeds of Love" — Tears For Fears 5:45
"Toy Soldiers" — Martika 4:40
"Heaven" — Warrant 4:07
"Don't Wanna Lose You" — Gloria Estefan 4:07
"Soldier of Love" — Donny Osmond 3:52
"Hangin' Tough" — New Kids on the Block 3:55
"Right Here Waiting" — Richard Marx 4:27
"Lost in Your Eyes" — Debbie Gibson 3:33

7. You must not actually be from Omaha
Every classic rock station in every town in the mid-west still plays "Sweet Home Alabama" in heavy rotation to this day. It's more popular than the national anthem and the American flag. It's not more popular than Jesus, though.

11. "Sweet Home Alabama" remains a staple of classic rock stations everywere

..but it wasn't what kids were singing during the summer of '89. I was 24 in 1989; my memory is that kids were listening to hair-band metal or stuff like Depeche Mode... depending on where one lived.

edit: I do live in Omaha now; but I lived in Florida in '89.

9. They still play it and a lot of kids listen to the "oldies"
because, face it, our music is much better than what is coming out today.

The family and I went bowling last week. This is the so-called "Cosmic Bowling" where they play videos and you bowl in relative darkness. The best video, for my money, was Jimi Hendrix playing "Voodoo Chile" at Woodstock -- and event at which most of the surviving attendees are now grandparents -- and some are great grandparents.

18. My perspective is that music is actually perking up somewhat
after two pretty spotty decades (the 80's and 90's).

22. But I listened to that song a lot when I was in high school/college in 1996ish.
It is just kinda one of those songs.

I am not saying it is a great song by any means.

The whole 'white trash' act is just that... an act.

Kid Rock couldn't be authentic to save his life. He's a rip-off on every level.
