I want to cry...the Moody Blues have sold out.
The song, "Tuesday Afternoon" used in ad for a tourist-trap aquarium. :grr:

1. Well, at least an aquarium is semi-educational
At least they didn't sell out to a car company!

5. If I may add to the list...
A snippet of "Nights in White Satin" was in the episode of "King of the Hill" in which Dale tries to sue the tobacco company.

No amount of selling out, however, can unravel my love for "To Our Children's Children's Children". A masterpiece that was.

7. I heard that last night.
Edited on Sun Apr-05-09 07:02 PM by Iggo
My TV started singing "Tuuuuuuuues-day, Aaaaaaaaf-ter-noon." I had to stop whatever it was I was doing and obey the siren call, and I was like, "Why is the 13 yr old watching VH1? Wait. What? Seriously? A commercial?" But at least there were pretty pictures. And the edit seemed respectful of the song's structure and integrity. You know those ad campaigns, though. The longer they run, the more they twist a famous song to their nefarious purposes. But hey, pretty pictures!

I've been listening to that song ever since it was new (yes, I'm that old) and, thankfully, it is so ingrained in my memory that they could use it as the theme song for Abattoirs R Us and it wouldn't change how my mind soars when I hear it. What it might do is deny the current generation the opportunity to establish the same kind of realtionship with the song. It's sad, but that's life in Consumerville.

And anyway, {insert famous band name here} sold out before we ever heard of them. In fact, I'd venture to say that the only reason we EVER heard of {insert famous band name here} is BECAUSE they sold out. Nature of the biz.

:hi:

millions of albums.

Never, ever charging a thing for music, memerobilia, or anything else.

I have several scientific friends that do work/volunteer for with them. I guess they are sell outs too? :grr:

20. I dunno.
I like them. I went to the Shed aquarium in Chicago. It was really great. They have a tremendous marine mammal exhibit.

I smile whenever I see that commercial because I love the song and the commercial is very well done.

23. They're not what they used to be
Ray Thomas isn't with them anymore, and without Mike Pinder or Patrick Moraz on keyboards, they're just not the same group.

I saw them last year, with just Justin Hayward, John Lodge and Graham Edge. While the set list was impressive (they did a lot of things I had never seen them do the other 9 times I saw them) those no longer with the band were missed DESPERATELY.

24. I have to admit hearing "Today" in a VISA card commercial jarred me the wrong way...
Edited on Mon Apr-06-09 09:14 AM by Tommy_Carcetti
...especially since the song is basically about one having suicidal thoughts. Then again, when dealing with credit card debt....

Ahh, what are you gonna do? Most any great rock band will see its music co-opted for commercial purposes at some time or another. It comes with the territory.
