My neighbor wants to buy my old van. How much should I charge him?
Edited on Tue Apr-07-09 09:20 AM by supernova
For 10 years I drove a 1992 Chevy conversion van that my mom origianally bought. I drove from 1996-2006 when I bought my Honda CR-V.

My neighbor's son is interested in buying it from me, but I'm not sure how much to ask him for it.

Minuses:

The van is 16.5 years old. It has 135K miles on it. Possibly a small radiator leak (it eats antifreeze... slowly). And needs a new battery and air in the tires because I haven't run it in all the time I've been driving the Honda.

Pluses:

The plus points are, the inside is in relatively good condition, no rust anywhere, primo sound system, windows and doors still work fine. Excellent ride, you can take long trips and arrive feeling great, not tired. Yeah, it's a gas hog.... :eyes:

So, what would be a fair price for this?

edit: The van looks a lot like this, except with racing stripes below the windows

1. I looked at edmunds.com, hard to tell without more details, but a G30 5.7L with those miles has a
dealer retail of about 1100.

2. How much is he willing to pay?
A 92 with 135K on it in good enough shape to sell is a good candidate for "make me an offer".

6. In this economy? $600.
Considering the mileage on it and the fact that you've had it sitting for so long (which can cause problems in and of itself) I'd say $600 max.

But it's up to you, of course.

7. Is it down by the river?
Riverfront property is probably worth a litle more.

9. Are you leaving the bed in the back, or does it have too many memories to part with?
The bed adds value.
