How come what the media calls the most beautiful women are less attractive than my Sweetie?
Sweetie (Gizmonic) reads Vanity Fair and there is a recent issue with that "super model" Gisele on the cover. The words on the cover suggest she is the most beautiful woman in the world. First of all, I wonder if all the Chinese, Indians or Africans would have picked a white woman. While I'm don't mean to denigrate her, she seems rather thin. And these models and Hollywood ladies always seem to have an emotionless expression when posing for glamour shots. My Sweetie is warm, compassionate, huggable and unpretentious. She looks and feels human. All that photoshopping makes the pros look synthetic somehow.

1. I think Gisele is absolutely stunning but not the most beautiful woman in the world.

We all have different ideas of what beauty is anyway so it is hard to call anyone the most beautiful.

2. beauty is in the eyes of the beholder
Gisele while attractive is not the most beautiful women in the world. I personally would have my wife in that category.

3. The "most beautiful women" on magazine covers or stories are ones with good publicists or money
Gisele has a horseface in my opinion.

16. Actresses are at least doing something and talking.
Singers too like Sarah Brightman and Joan Jett. They're both a little older than me, so they are probably outside of your age range.

I'm sure modeling is hard and everything, but the final product is pretty static not only in movement, but in expression too.

5. Wow, are you trying to suck up!
 What happened, forget to take the trash out last night?

Seriously, though, I don't know why the media makes "beauty" into a competition, as though it can be ranked. Beauty is subjective, and multi-faceted, and often can't be captured by a camera lens, anyway. Gisele is a very attractive woman, and is very good at her work--which is more than just standing still and showing her face and body. But I hate the whole "most beautiful" or "sexiest" routine, especially for women, where the media also loses interest once a few wrinkles begin to show.

But I guess the media wouldn't do it if there wasn't an audience for it.

6. As if a few wrinkles matter
Tell me that this woman's few wrinkles make her unattractive:

After 35 years (27 married) with her, she still looks as beautiful to me as any woman
I've seen dolled up on the cover of some fashion mag.

9. I've yet to see almost any facet of life
that doesn't involve some kind of popularity contest. So many people are so insecure about themselves they always turn everything into one.

10. Because they've been brainwashed into thinking that
stick women are hot! I say real women have curves, and maybe truly beautiful means being at least 35, so that you may have earned a few points!

13. Two different concepts of beauty really
I consider my wife quite gorgeous with a beauty that encompasses much more than "just" her looks. However, I (like many men) am not immune to the pretty girl and have a "type" that I think is totally stunning. It isn't the same type as my wife. Would I trade my wife in on a woman of the "right type"? Not a chance.

No analogy works perfectly (and there really aren't different words for the two kinds of beauty), but that never stops me from bumbling into an attempt--I find exotic sports cars such as the Ferrari to be beautiful, but if tomorrow I could have any car in the world, it might be the 1970 Javelin I had in high school (actually, I'd want it totally restored). My wife is my Javelin, supermodels (and Janeanne Garofalo) are the Ferrari's I like to look at. Like I said, a bit weak, but even for guys, emotion plays a big part in what they see as beautiful.

18. They like human coathangers.
They don't take soul or personality into account.

It's not the looks, it's the brains, personality or whatever is individual that animates that face.

I see plenty of women & men who are muffies & biffs -- tall, well-built, good bone structure in their faces, but there is nobody inside. Just terribly bland looking.
