It is a huge invite for self projection.

Well phrased for that reason.

I think for me, it is jarring because it fundamentally describes a transition into lack of belief. And is done in such a way to offer no chance for rebuttal, because the statement itself refers to nothing, since it requires projection.

So it is like a perfect claim of last thought on a topic. It gets to say in some way, that something has changed due to the authors action of explanation, and yet does not offer any way for rebuttal.

I think its a classic phrase, top notch.
