Pit Bull, Blitz, thwarts abduction attempt.
HOLLAND -- A 2-year-old pit bull named Blitz is getting the hero treatment today after he frightened a man dragging his estranged wife across a street in a possible abduction attempt.

The 33-year-old suspect had broken into the Thomas Avenue home where his wife was staying, then began dragging her across nearby South Shore Drive when Blitz bolted into action.

"I didn't think he had it in him, but I guess he did," said the dog's proud owner, also credited for helping the victim escape her attacker.

The 32-year-old pet owner, who didn't want to be named, heard the woman screaming in the street about 11 p.m. Wednesday and came out of her South Shore Drive duplex apartment to help. At the same time, Blitz raced past her and out the door.

The gray pit bull made an aggressive beeline straight for the suspect. As Blitz came near, the man let loose of his wife, enabling her to break away and get inside the dog owner's apartment.

Blitz, described as a gentle dog who likes to lick faces, never attacked the suspect.

Police arrived at the scene moments after the 32-year-old victim, Blitz and his owner got into the apartment. The man was pacing in the apartment's front yard for a minute or two before police arrived and arrested him.

Police recovered a knife at the scene.

"I think my dog kind of kept him away from coming closer to the apartment," Blitz's owner said.

The victim told the dog owner that her husband broke into the home using a hammer and had sent her suicidal text messages earlier in the day.

4. woo hoo!! good dog! what a good dog...
lots of belly rubs and playing with his toys!

it's sooo good to hear something positive about a pitbull - especially as someone who owns a half-pit.

5. Awwww! I love stories like this. Treat and raise an animal with TLC, and they'll not be mean.
But they will protect you if they see danger.

I often joke about my pooch being so tame that I'd have to throw him at a burgler to get any protection. But seriously, I only had one time some asshole contractor was an abusive asshole and constantly raised his voice and threatened me.

My dog was all over me like flies on shit, and watched him contantly. If my dog didn't like him, I knew it was deep shit. I fired him, which pissed him off into another rampage. He took another look at my dog, and had second thoughts about protesting.

I love my pooch. He's absolutely harmless. But try to hurt me? He'll tear your fucking legs off.

10. I didn't see that before, LOL! So we agree,
they will not harm, but will protect if necessary.

I can't stress this enough. Treat your animals decent, and they will be just as kind and decent to others. Same goes for children. Don't even get me started on that one.

Reporters don't know how to write any more.
And I guess editors don't know how to edit either.
Or they've all been laid off.

17. Excuse me? Our local Wal-Mart has a big sign up for selling guns!
I just about pissed myself when I saw that.

I'd better get a gun soon. So some idiot burglar can take it away from me and shoot me, my mother, and my pets in the head.

20. I use to have a pit bull
The only time he ever got aggressive was when somebody threatened my mom. My brother and I, we were 8 and 6 at the time, stopped him from attacking the guy but he got the hint and ran away.

Chains do not belong around a dog's neck PERIOD and that one is so heavy; it must be quite uncomfortable.

33. I already tried that
the gun "advocates" said I was a negligent dog owner for not packing so I could protect my dog ("why would you endanger your dog by not having a gun to protect it")

really. I kid you not

No I don't own a gun. Yes I do have a pitbull

29. I know.
The chain is a fake, I think. By the way it hangs, it's obviously not his leash collar. Also, from the way it hangs, it doesn't look like it has a clasp. I've seen these in pet stores. They feel like aluminum, not the heavy steel cow chains the idiots use for show.

He's a gorgeous color, huh?

30. He *IS* a beautiful color! I've never seen a pit that color IRL.
I hope you're right and it's a light chain.

And I will never understand why people continue to crop the ears. They are SO cute uncropped!

31. Great to read a positive story about a pit bull.
Because whenever there is a pit bull attack, the media jumps all over it. Very few stories about cockers, Labs or other breeds attacking. I have a Rottweiler, who is the sweetest dog ever. And I have a Chihuahua that is an attack dog. I didn't train her that way. In fact, I even sent her to Man's Best Friend's Puppy Boot Camp when she was 6 months old and I got back an attack Chihuahua. I think that Chihuahuas are naturally mean little critters. She hates everyone but me.

35. What a LOVELY blue!
I love blue pibbles, even though they are more prone to allergies since it's a recessive color. What a handsome boy he is...and obviously smart, too. He almost looks like a White Rock dog...great line, that one.

Way to go Blitz! His owner should sneak him some people food for that one, not too much though... ;) Neat that it's Holland...I've been there...I really love the lighthouse up in Grand Haven as far as that goes, but I babble. Used to head up that way to take photographs when I lived in Battle Creek....
