The soundtrack from De-Lovely.

It is beginning to hurt.

2. The Clash's cover of "Police on My Back" defeats most earworms for me
Failing that, the "Rent" soundtrack defeats them all. Of course you'd be exchanging one set of show tunes for another, but they're very good. (Not that Cole Porter isn't, but you said it's starting to hurt.)

12. I love the music, to be honest .... and it is very clever stuff
His chords and orchestrations are very clever. And his lyrics really pushed the envelope at the time.

"Experiment"

"Love for Sale"

"Let's Do It"

Lots of very skillful double entendre

Plus they're catchy show tunes! :)

What;'s not to like?

19. That was one of the best renditions ... Judy Garland and Gene Kelly
Gawd I love the old classics and those great Golden Age stars.

Sparkly and I were both born about 60 years too late.

23. I love that movie.
But I have loved Cole Porter even longer. One of the first LPs I ever bought, many many years ago, was Ella Fitzgerald sings Cole Porter. I wore it out. And so I loved "DeLovely". One of my favorite bits is the scene where she comes down the stairs in her Cleopatra garb. And, of course, the "Let's Misbehave" number.

31. Years ago I was in a production of Anything Goes
I loved the score so much and it still provides the heart of my singing in the car alone repetoire.

For my money, the two greatest show stopping group songs in music theatre history are "Blow Gabriel Blow" from Anything Goes and "Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat" from Guys and Dolls.

(There is a psuedo biography movie about Cole Porter called Night and Day that starred Cary Grant and Alexis Smith that I just adored as a kid when I saw it on a Saturday afternoon movie. But what a crock of shit in terms of accuracy! I haven't seen DeLovely, I'll have to check it out.)

32. Hmm. Are these Cole Porter earworms running, "NIGHT AND DAY"?
Like the beat, beat, beat of the tomtom,
when the jungle shadows fall.
Like the tick, tick, tock of the stately clock,
as it stands against the wall.
Like the drip, drip, drip of the raindrops,
when the summer shower is through.

<End quote>

Hope this helps!

:hi:
