Horrible, horrible day
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 01:26 PM by crimsonblue
My car battery is dead. I have a chemistry lab that started at 12:30pm. My car was my only means of transportation of making it to class. I am missing lab, and I am not sure if I will be able to make it up. If I can't, then my grade will automatically be lowered one letter grade, which I cannot afford to have happen. I need a good grade in this class. I am freaking out, and I could use some positive vibes and reassurance that everything will be fine. Fuck.

UPDATE: I emailed my TA and the Chemistry department about my situation. My TA was not very sympathetic to my plight, but the Department said I could make the lab in another section, provided I bring documentation to the lab director. I got a receipt of both my credit card charge and a receipt of service (which I had the tow truck guy write on to say that the car needed to charge for an hour-- he said it needed to charge for an hour). I am reluctantly hopeful that this will be sufficient to rectify my situation.

1. Everything will be fine. Worst case, you lose a letter grade and $100.
In three years, it won't matter one bit. In 20, you won't even remember it.

Best case, you take the battery receipt to your professor and they have pity.

Look at the solution, not the problem, and you'll feel more relaxed. Have you called or emailed anyone? The department office, the professor if you have their address, a lab assistant? Just to let them know the problem, so they won't feel like you just skipped out. Do your best, and everyone else's reaction is their problem.

There, that's the best I can do. :)

3. I second the phone call
You don't want it to look like an excuse you made up later. Department office will do if you have no direct access.

2. I would talk to the professor...
I got injured (burned) in a chem lab while in school and missed some vital experiment time I was able to come in on the weekend and make it up with the TA...maybe they will do that for you...:hi:

4. My dear crimsonblue...
Ah, sweetie...

There's some very good advice here, from people who know a lot more about academia than I...

All I have are hugs...Hope these will help!

Positive vibes for you!

5. See if you can make up the lab in another section.
If your prof and your TA are reasonable, they should let you make up the lab in another section later in the week. It certainly doesn't hurt to ask! Contact them as soon as possible, and bring the receipt from your car repairs so they can see you didn't just sleep in.

6. TA often stands for Tyrannical Asshole
To be fair, they've probably heard that excuse quite a few times when it wasn't true, and TAs usually don't have the experience or wisdom to know how to be gracious when asking for proof. Some are just power-mad, though.

Hope you are feeling more positive. It's easy to let the stress overwhelm you.
