What music are you listening to?
Haven't seen this topic in a while.

Most recently:

Kelly Clarkson - All I Ever Wanted (great pop album)
Metric - Fantasies (as good a pop album as Kelly's, but a little different - less dancy and R&B influenced, and there's a little more alt/rock sound, but just as hook-laden. You can hear some Blondie and power pop here. Was surprised reviewer Tim Sendra enjoyed their bigger sound as much as I did)
Petula Clark - The Ultimate Petula Clark (the whole collection is amazing - not just "Downtown.")

Some of:

Ida Maria - Fortress Round My Heart (is she trying to imitate P.J. Harvey or something? Hard to tell, because I couldn't stand her grating vocals. I'm not a huge P.J. fan, but she's clearly better.)

Silversun Pickups - Swoon (the Smashing Pumpkins comparisons really are accurate, but at least on this CD, their craft isn't as accomplished. People may like his vocals more than Billy's, though)

5. Today's been a mixed bag
The Pietasters - All Day. Great album. Kind of a mash up of The 4 Tops, The Rolling Stones and Desmond Dekker.

The 4 Skins - Best Of. Oi at it's best.

Dance Hall Crashers - Lockjaw. I've had a love-hate relationship with this double female fronted band. Today, it's love.

Prince Buster - FABulous Hits. FUCK YEAH!!!1 Original Ska at it's best. Specials/English Beat/Madness fans, this guy wrote half the songs that made those bands famous fifteen years prior in Jamaica.

32. Outcomes of football matches
Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 09:43 AM by Rambis
should not be in subject lines :) Last year somebody sent me the Man United Chelsea outcome in an email literally one minute before I sat down to watch the final so I am used to it. I was over the moon at 0-2 Liverpool were attacking all over the field. Best 20 minutes I have seen all year. The best match I have seen all year even though the outcome was shite. Wish Stevie G could have played but I understand why Rafa kept him out. The club knew it was an uphill climb but if Liverpool play half that well the rest of the way Man U are in for it. The 17 year old Machedo can't keep pulling Man U's bollocks out of the fire every week. Squeaky bum time Sir Alex-

12. "The Killing Moon" by Echo & The Bunnymen, "Interstate 5" by the Wedding Present
Just those two on repeat on my iPod. My band is covering both of these (along with 10 songs I wrote) at a showcase we're playing on Thursday night.

Since I've been on lithium, my short-term memory is shot to hell, and I'm having a hard time memorizing lyrics, and I'm trying to get these crammed into my head in the right order-- even though I know the songs backward and forward on guitar.

After Thursday, I'm going on a Iggy Pop/David Bowie Berlin albums kick. I'm reading a book about it right now, and it makes me want to relisten to everything.

but couldn't even begin to count how many times our mutual friend Sam Franklin brought his name up. I used to drive through Tulsa a couple of times a year , going to Chicago and back, but lately have been going up to Denver and then across Nebraska etc. but sooner or later I'll probably go through Tulsa again, and hopefully will be able to see you play. And my condolences to you on losing your bass player buddy this year........abq e streeter

Yeah, it was tough losing Ron back in Feb. He was about the best friend I had in the world. He backed Flash and Sam on many many gigs over the years. It is still hard some days to wrap my head around the fact that all 3 of them are gone now :(

45. same if you ever make it to Albq---
if I'm not playing ( and gigs have been REAL slow lately) there are open jams at a few clubs, and we'll have to hit one or two...Sad when you lose close friends; I really dearly loved Sam, and lost a couple other close friends myself in recent years, including the drummer from my old rockabilly band , who I went to see Springsteen with in Phoenix in '02 ( Tom died 10 months later)... I saw Bruce for the first time since then last Friday in Denver ( FANTASTIC show, btw), and I'm sure Tom would have been there with us, but as Sam put it in his gospel song: we're just "passin' through".

36. I saw Ida Maria a few weeks ago...
Opening for Glasvegas. My recording of the show is on The Pirate Bay, if such a thing interests you. :) I think I liked her a little better live than on album, but she generally doesn't do that much for me. As I said to my wife that night, "it's as if Bjork were auditioning for a Janis Joplin tribute band".
