Do you like GOOD music?

I mean GOOD. Not Brittany-Spears-manufactured-good, but real musicians writing their own songs and putting on performances 10 times better than the (already great) studio albums? If so, you need to listen to Phish. They are the greatest living band, hands down. Equal parts fun and funky, slow & souful, wicked thrash meets rocksteady jams. They will play a song that will bring tears to your eyes then segway into a song called "lets go out to dinner and see a movie" (guess what its only lyrics are?). They write lyrics that continue to have new meaning to me, 15 years after listening to them. Their concerts are epic. In short, they are a grat band and worth exploring. Let me know what kind of music you like and I can recommend a song of theirs to you. :)

Sleep

I cant describe the feeling when
Im in my bed asleep and then
I wake up with a vision blurred
and all my efforts are deterred
to reconstruct this image lost

Theres certain things my mind must do
and even though they're very few
the image glistens like a gem
repairing is not one of them

so Im awake though in my mind
the image thats so unrefined
is calling to me from the deep
tempting me to fall asleep

1. other highlights
They threw the largest millenium celebration in the world, drawing 100,000 fans down to the Florida Everglades.

On their goodbye show in Coventry, VT, fans walked 20 miles to reach the campground.

On Halloween they play "musical costumes," covering their favorite albums. Past selections include Talking Heads, The Who, Pink Floyd and Velvet Underground.

During a tour in 1995, they challenged the fans to a band-vs-fan chess match. At each show, an audience member was called up to make a move. The band won.

The drummer Jon Fishman (2nd from right) wears the same outfit to every concert - a black-and-red dress he found in a dumpster back in college. After 20+ years of touring, its nearing the end. It can only be dry-cleaned... Notable exceptions to his dresscode include wearing a $2000 Armani suit (after they hit it big) and once, flying onto stage naked, suspended by wires.

2. I like good music, however
I don't agree with your opinion on Phish. I don't really care for jambands. They're not my thing.

3. Who is Brittany Spears?
I've heard of Britney Spears and I like her. Pretty much nobody writes their own music nowadays and I don't have a problem with it. Unless someone claims to write their own music but really doesn't (I'm looking at you Beyonce).

if you love dub and Radiohead is your favorite, you're gonna flip out over Radiodread. The same group (The Easy Star All-Stars) did a dub remake of Dark Side of the Moon and it was phenomenal. Let Down is my favorite. Its on iTunes. Im gonna check out that vid you sent just as soon as this song finishes :)

I like the part where the diver parks his ass in the recliner! He looks like he's straight out of a Gorillaz video.

What are all the lights at the end supposed to be?

21. I like many kinds of music.
But if a so called "band" can't play instruments, it's not really music. And no, turntables aren't musical instruments.

Not that I'm entirely opposed to hip-hop. Lyrically, it can be great stuff. But it's been around 30 years now, so they can stop sampling the George Clinton records and set rhymes to their own music already.

Songwriting also helps, because usually the singers that can't write their own stuff are the ones who become the tools of the corporations. That's even true of the King Himself, who was one Hell of a singer and a performer, but couldn't write a song to save his life (and get his career out of "Colonel" Tom Parker's greedy paws)

25. A friendly PSA from Chan790:
The words "Phish" and "good" should never be used in the same paragraph unless you're trying to break the universe.

"Greatest living band"? Really? You really think so, you're not just trying to make people laugh so hard they urinate on themselves?

30. "Good" means something different for everyone - but I like singer/songwriter stuff
Not sure the Phish kind - more like the Beatles, Sarah McLachlan, Simon & Garfunkel, A Fine Frenzy, Josh Ritter, Michelle Branch, and The Corrs kind.
