Anyone here a fan of Velvet Underground when they were together?
That is, from 1966-1973?
Its funny, for a band that never got much exposure, they are the only band to rival the Beatles and Elvis in terms of pure influence of the direction of Rock and Roll...
4. There are still some on Youtube - they were very like the difference
between the live Who and the studio recordings, or maybe lke the live Stones versus the studio. Very tight, tough sound - Lou is a great guitarist. Think "Heroin" on the studio tracks and increase the balls by 6x.
If I had access to a time machine, I'd like to think I'd do something noble like assassinating Hitler or warning the captain of the Titanic about icebergs or something like that...
but I'd probably just go to see the Exploding Plastic Inevitable in 1966. Gotta be their early period. I'm a noisy fiddler and a big Cale partisan. :hi:
He saw them at La Cave in Cleveland in 1969 after Cale left the band and said it was the best concert he ever saw. As soon as I got into music a few years later, I became a huge fan, too.
13. No- but I can tell you exactly where I was and what I was doing when I first heard them.
It was 1989, and I was driving my Chrysler LeBaron down Stevens Creek Road when my buddy popped in the tape of the bananna LP. I've been an obsessive fan ever since.
My advice is to try to find mono versions of the 1st 2 LPs. The 1st one has been re-issued, but the 2nd one is pretty hard to come across...
14. Did not discover them until 1974 when I was 14...
then I became obsessed. And in the ensuing years, they became these legendary figures from a past that could never be again. In the 90s, when I started meeting the members...it just blew my mind. And it still does.
