I guess I traumatized my dog today :(
Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 07:15 PM by Shell Beau
I accidentally shut him up in the guest bedroom all day. I thought I checked that room before I shut the door and left. I shut all of the doors to the rooms except for my bedroom. He was locked in there from 7:45 to 5:00. :( He ripped up the carpet at the door, I guess trying to get out. It hurts my feelings so bad. Poor thing. Amazingly, he held his pee and poo all day. Bless his heart. He is getting lots of extra loving tonight. My other dog is almost as upset about it.

Edit to add sweet baby Hank's picture.

1. I once left my dog outside all day. I put her out in the morning before I left for work,
and then forgot all about her. When I came home, she was on the front porch with a pail of water. The neighbor lady saw her on her chain in the back yard around mid-morning and realized that something was wrong. She moved her to the cool and shady front porch and gave her a bucket with water. Boy was I surprised, and I felt just awful for days. :(

5. I accidentally shut my docile female kitty in my son's dresser once.
I had all the drawers open putting clean laundry away one day. She crawled in there and I didn't know that, shut all the drawers and went about my business for another day.

I did notice the next day I had not seen her for a while. She finally did get an attitude about being trapped for so long, and I started hearing her meows in a distance. I started searching the house for her, and found her trapped in the son's underwear drawer!

I did feel terrible about that. But at least her 1 day incarceration did smell good. Bless her heart she didn't soil anything in there.

8. She's a sweetheart and never did take revenge. She's absolutely docile like that.
I think she was just glad to get to the litter box, and eat some kitty gruel. She never held it against me.

16. My husband's cat keeps climbing in the broom closet and hiding in the back corner
So he gets locked in. But he's part Siamese so when he yells, we can hear him from everywhere in the house! He used to climb into the refrigerator but he's given that up. He never found anything good to eat that he could reach and it was COLD!

17. My sweet kitty insisted on parking in the fridge once. I had to pull her out, LOL!
She just knew she had some kind of a mission in there. She doesn't even like cold food! Like, I was going to leave her in the fridge all night? What a doofus!

She was pissed at me pulling her out. But, good god?? Was I supposed to leave her in there all night?

Cats are brain damaged. :eyes:

18. Yes, they always want to be where we don't want them
Edited on Thu Apr-16-09 12:54 AM by csziggy
At least now my husband's cat no longer moves fast - he's 16 - so I can usually keep him out of places he should not be.

My cat on the other hand wants a revolving door. He's pissed that the new house does not have a screened door he can open so he makes me let him in or out about 500 times a day. If he wants out, he scratches on the upholstered furniture. If he wants in, he climbs the window screens. I put a cat door in the wall that goes out onto the screened porch, but he does not want to spend the day out there - he wants real nature to chase.

I am looking for a cat door that will fit into a 30" wide sash window.

The next cat(s) we own will be indoor only and will learn how to use a flush toilet - I swear!

19. My cats are inside cats, (unless that feral that will escape at any chance.) Little tramp!
As far as the use of toilet and flushing, good luck with that. We have a rule in my house - toilet lid always closed. My cats are adorable, but disgusting, about thinking of the toilet as a drinking bowl.

I won't have that. :puke:

Nope!

And my dog is disgusting too. That's why the litter boxes are in the basement. I don't even want to discuss why that is.

27. I may just spring for one of those self cleaning cat boxes
You know, the kind that "flushes" into the toilet: http://www.catgenie.com/ If my knees get no better, I won't be able to carry the litter box out to clean it, so one of those would be great.

We tried a litter maid but it just clogged up with the cat pee soaked litter. And that is with just one cat using it. My cat will not go inside, strictly outdoors. Hubby's cat will spend all day outside, come in and use the litter box immediately.

I was thinking last night - I think I know why the old cat climbs into the fridge. He likes to sleep in front so he has the warmth of the compressor. He may be looking to get closer to that warmth!

Here is another reason to keep our cats in - at least the next batch! This morning hubby's cat wanted out to lie in the sun. A little while later we were watching him go to the ground bird bath for water and spotted one of the gray foxes - it was stalking the cat! It came up to the edge of the timbers holding the raised bed where the bird baths are, snuck around the edge, hiding behind the timbers, then stood up, all the while staring at the cat.

Cat was oblivious - if the fox had attacked, he would have been toast. So hubby slid open the patio door which was enough to spook the fox and he ran away. I may have to restrict the old cat to the screened porch! The younger cat had stood off the foxes and they are afraid of him, but the older cat is not healthy and an easy target.

25. I did that when one of my kitties was a baby.
He jumped in the drawer without me noticing, and we went out for a few hours that evening. Luckily it wasn't tooooo long. :(

Also, one of my kitties got in to the refrigerator without me knowing! I closed the door, but thank goodness some inate sense tipped me off, because in about a minute I had a feeling that something was strange even though I couldn't hear anything. :scared: He gave me this look like, "what the hell?"

9. It happens all the time here
But now I know where to look. The first time our Lab went missing we spent an hour or so (around 9:00-10:00 pm) driving thru our 'hood, in 2 cars, calling her name. Despondent, we finally gave up. As we were going into our back door, I looked over at our basement door which is outside and off of our back porch. I pushed on it, and there was considerable weight behind it, so I pushed harder, and that pink nose and blond snout poked through the crack. She regularly gets trapped in there, as does our kitty.

OTOH, our pug only gets trapped behind a bowl of food. Otherwise, she makes sure she stays in full view, so as to not miss a crumb of food or a belly rub.

Our pug obsesses over food, but our Lab will hardly eat at times (her health, coat and weight are good, she's just not a big eater).

12. My vet said it best "some dogs live to eat, some dogs eat to live".
So true.

One of my dogs only ate to survive. He didn't care a whole lot about food.

14. And my vet said
Pugs gain weight just breathing air. However, she weighed 18.9 lbs today, so that's pretty good since she's 10 years old. The Lab hovers between 75-80 lbs. which can be unusual as some labs are known for being porkers.

13. whoopsie
Hi,
I mistakenly somehow shut my cat in a spare bedroom on Easter. She ripped up some of the carpet by the door but did not go potty in there. I usually keep that door shut to begin with and just went in there for a minute to grab some styrofoam cups to dye Easter eggs in and she snuck in there then. She does disappear at times so I thought she was off in one of her hideouts until I was by the doorway and heard her scratching.

Glad you are giving Hank some extra attention, he looks like a sweetie.

Peace

In the morning, we couldn't figure out where she was. We finally went outside, and boy, was she happy
to get out of the car. I was amazed she hadn't barked to get our attention.
