How many of you have been entranced by these word today

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving.

Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used
And wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung
No wine untasted.

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dream to shame.

And still
I dream he'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms
We cannot weather...

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
so different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed
The dream I dreamed.

That woman can sing, and this is an incredibly beautiful and sad song. :(

1. but her singing the song,
Is the irony proving the song not correct. The song about her dreams dieing was defeated when she sang her song. In her sadness, someone was with her, and gave her reason to dream.

I find that even more beautiful. The defeat of a sad song, was in her singing the song.

It is as if her song was heard.

3. That's true if long term good comes from this.
I hope that's true.

But realistically, a record company might make some money, she probably won't make any significant money, and her fame will be fleeting. So it will just be a brief interruption and the song will be true again. :(

That's me being a cynic/realist. But I hope I'm wrong. :)

11. I DO hope you're wrong,
or at least she enjoys some experiences of her fame, and 'goods' for her future comfort. Her townspeople will care for her, I think.

16. Its up to us to you to determine if you are right or wrong.
along with every one of us, will we seek out and buy an album by her? Or will we just buy one put on lots of radio play. Would you go to a show she sang at?

We choose the world we live in.

17. If we buy CDs only the record company really profits.
It's going to be shows where she would make her money. And, hell yes, I would pay to see her perform.

If she can belt out a bunch of songs half that well it would be an amazing show.

23. I'm not sure if being rich was her dream
But it makes sense to think she should be fairly compensated.

I am looking forward to more songs on that show also, I hope she continues with great performances.

30. I am worried that someone will take advantage of her.
That industry just chews people up, especially if they are at all naive (which is most people who are not professional musicians).

I hope she stays far, far away from Simon Cowell and his ilk.

Then I guess I hope there is an off broadway version, or something on DVD. :(

9. Wow, I bet she never expected to become an overnight sensation.
It's good to see it happen to someone that Simon Cowell started to diss. The look on his face before and after she started singing was priceless. I like to see him surprised and changing his tune. He's normally so grumpy.

14. I'm doing pretty well.
I'm a little stressed though, trying to find a place to move. I need a wheelchair accessible apartment that allows dogs. That is nearly impossible to find in NYC. So I'm on a Quest! :P

Thank you. I hope you are doing well too.

12. My dear ThomCat!
Her voice is a miracle! And this song is now the second one from "Les Miz" that I love!

The first being "Bring Him Home."

Thank you so much, sweetie, for posting these lyrics...

They make her song so much more meaningful...

The song is very beautiful, but you're right, the song means more when you know what is being sung. The poem means as much as the music that carries it. :)

19. I don't know why.

I appreciate that. I really do. Thank you.

But all I do is struggle to hang on. I don't do anything particularly well expect usually keep a good mood. :P

I wish I had a talent. I would love to be half as good a writer, or singer, or photographer, or knitter, or dancer, or musician as other. All those talents passed me by.

I used to be a pretty good activist, and that was my chance to be a hero at something, but that got taken away from me by injuries and pain. So I didn't even get that.

24. I've listened to it countless times over the past few days
I even listened to the same song performed by other, professional singers, including Patti Lupone, to figure out what it is that makes me want to hear Susan Boyle sing that song over and over again. It's not just her incredible range and control or her fearlessness but a sense of yearning that comes from deep within, a desire to transcend the earthbound and abandon our racket day-to-day concerns if only for the moment. Her voice lifts me up and makes me believe all things are possible.

37. I was just telling a Les Mis fan who hadn't seen her performance
That he really has to see the video. Patti Lupone did a more technically correct job, IMHO, but no one I've heard brought the song alive like Susan Boyle did. It's such a beautiful song and the composers should thank her for bringing it to an even wider audience.

to sing, so we can hear more of her live. :)

I am sure that she will sound amazing in a studio recording, but she can really carry a house live. Not many people can do that nearly so well. It's a shame to miss that by only hearing studio recordings.

I suspect she's got more amazing stuff in those vocal cords of hers. Yep, not many people can electrify a live audience like that.

32. There are people who think anything is fake
just because they it gives them an opinion that makes them feel smarter than everyone else who supposedly got taken in. After all, they were the only ones smart enough and wise enough to somehow notice that this live performance was somehow an elaborate con. :eyes:

34. I am around a bit more recently.
We have had a long string of bad weather, and I went through a bout a insomnia because of it. So I have been here instead of sleeping. :)

I'm now sleeping again, but instead of long stretches of 18-24 hours at a time, I'm getting naps of 4-6 hours. So I'm here more in between.

I can't really predict how things are going to work out week by week, so I'm just playing it by ear. :)
