I fear that even the very gods could not, and can not, out-douchify MrCoffee.

Java boy or vegan boy? I'd add DS1 but I think he would win hands down...:hide:

9. His songs are shorter, therefore by default he's better.
It's like slightly less waterboarding is better than a bit more waterboarding.

23. So true.
Bret Michaels is better than Rush (and he's a bottom feeder who feeds on what other bottom feeders leave behind)

Winger is better than Rush (and they were the worst hair band of the 80s)

William Hung is better than Rush

6. Much better than Rush. Very skilled. Not always in the mood to hear them.
Some bands are very technically skilled but have no real idea of why they are playing music. Like Rush. Kansas is much better than that. They have a musicality beyond just the love of cool sounds and grad-school level techniques. Their music goes somewhere, says something beyond "Look at me, I've completed piano lessons!"

So I respect them, like their music, and if I'm in the right mood, I love to listen to them. At times, though, they get a little monotonous if I'm not in the mood to fully immerse myself in them. Good chill music, not good background music.

That's my assessment, and I'm sticking to it.

10. back in the day, every young man who attempted to learn the guitar
would strive long and hard to learn Kansas paean to boringness, Dust In The Wind.

Maybe that's why I can't play guitar; I kept falling asleep?

Song For America and The Wall... love those two songs.

Kansas was part of the official soundtrack when we'd hang out at the parking lot at lunch during HS.

16. For me, they personify why "Rock" music sucks. Me? I prefer Rock & Roll.
Kansas and their pot-bellied, bearded, "classic rock" brethren are really bad- Kansas is much worse than the state or Rush.

17. can't beat the old stuff.
I even have a taste for the early 80s material (Audio-Visions, Vinyl Confessions), although I have to get past the overweening religion on VC.

Trivia - Berke Breathed mentioned some years ago that Opus was named after the song "Magnum Opus".

20. Kansas ROCKS! Incredible musicianship and well-crafted lyrics!
Here is one of my favorites:

Song For America

Virgin land of forest green, dark and stormy plains, here all life abounds
Sunlit valley, mountain fields, unseen in the rain, here all life abounds
No man rules this land, no human hand has soiled this paradise
Waiting patiently, so much to see, so rich in Earth's delights

Painted desert, sequined sky, stars that fill the night, here all life abounds
Rivers flowing to the sea, sunshine pure and bright, here all life abounds
No man rules this land, no human hand has soiled this paradise
Waiting patiently, so much to see, so rich in Earth's delights

So the maiden lies in waiting, for the sails to reach the shore
Land of beauty and abundance, innocent, you opened wide your door
Wanderers found the waiting treasure, full of gifts beyond their measure
Milk and honey for our pleasure.....

Across the sea there came a multitude, sailing ships upon the wave
Filled with visions of Utopia, and the freedom that they crave
Ravage, plunder, see no wonder, rape and kill and tear asunder
Chop the forest, plow it under.....

Highways scar the mountainsides, buildings to the sky, people all around
Houses stand in endless rows, sea to shining sea, people all around
So we rule this land, and here we stand upon our paradise,
Dreaming of a place, our weary race is ready to arise.

22. Not qualified to judge on the basis of one song -- "Dust in the Wind."
And now I can't think of that without picturing Will Ferrell singing it in "Old School."

29. I voted "Rock"...they had a good sound...I liked the vocals of the lead singer
something about that voice just sounded sad, but NOT to the point of wanting to slit your wrists sad.

I think they had something good going there

31. Up until the album pictured in your OP, they were great.
The title track of that album sucked, "Dust in the Wind" was overplayed, and other than "Sparks of the Tempest" I had no use for the album at all. Their earlier albums were all great, as was Monolith, but most of the stuff after "Leftoverture" sucked - especially when SteveWalsh left the band and they went pop.
