He was born in the summer of his 27th year
I've got John Denver on my brain tonight, especially this beautiful song with such great lyrics:

Rocky Mountain High
John Denver

He was born in the summer of his 27th year
Comin' home to a place he'd never been before
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again
You might say he found a key for every door

When he first came to the mountains his life was far away
On the road and hangin' by a song
But the string's already broken and he doesn't really care
It keeps changin' fast and it don't last for long

But the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
The shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullabye
Rocky mountain high

He climbed cathedral mountains, he saw silver clouds below
He saw everything as far as you can see
And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun
And he lost a friend but kept his memory

Now he walks in quiet solitude the forest and the streams
Seeking grace in every step he takes
His sight has turned inside himself to try and understand
The serenity of a clear blue mountain lake

And the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
You can talk to God and listen to the casual reply
Rocky mountain high

Now his life is full of wonder but his heart still knows some fear
Of a simple thing he cannot comprehend
Why they try to tear the mountains down to bring in a couple more
More people, more scars upon the land

And the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
I know he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly
Rocky mountain high

It's Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
Friends around the campfire and everybody's high
Rocky mountain high

6. I love John Denver
I know that probably makes me corny as hell. But I do not care.

8. I love John Denver.......
If that makes me a big cheese, then so be it. I think that he had one of the best voices that I have ever heard.

10. I still love his ode to Jacques Cousteau with "Calypso"
I've been a John Denver fan since I was a kid.

To sail on a dream on a crystal clear ocean
To ride on the crest of a wild raging storm
To work in the service of life and the living
In search of the answers to questions unknown
To be part of the movement and part of the growing
Part of beginning to understand

Aye, calypso, the places youve been to
The things that youve shown us
The stories you tell
Aye, calypso, I sing to your spirit
The men who have served you
So long and so well

11. This was one of his few songs I didn't find annoying,
but from what relatively little I know about him, he was a good guy, and cared about people and about the planet, and the world would be a better place if there were more people like him. I can always frantically switch stations when Sunshine on My Shoulder comes on, but we can always use more people who believe in progressive ideals, which I guess he did--- (someone correct me if this is not true...)

12. Because he stood up for Heavy Metal in front of Congress, John Denver will always be cool with me.
Fuck the PMRC.
