Susan Boyle reminds me of my mom.

My mom is 15 years older but she has always been a singer, in choirs as a kid and now in Sweet Adelines. But she has also been someone who is very smart and talented but not allowed to (or lacked motivation to, I am not sure which) to do anything with her abilities.

I am glad she has Sweet Adelines. They've won some national championships (or whatever it's called) but at the time they did so, my parents had no money so she couldn't go to International, wherever it was. They also were supposed to go to Austria one time and she couldn't afford that either. Shame. If I'd had money, I would have paid for her to go.

If it weren't for her singing, I think she'd never leave the house. She lost her job a while back and it is unlikely anyone will hire her at her age. Not that they need the money now really but it would give her something to do.
