Mark Martin just won
the race at Phoenix.

I've been a Martin fan for about 15 years - but I kinda lost interest in NASCAR over the last few years. My BF however has stayed true to the sport and watches it every weekend. So, he kept me updated and ran in to tell me Mark won. I went in to see the winner circle.

For any NASCAR fans... you'll understand the following...

Jeff Burton was the first racer I saw congratulate him, then I saw Jack give him a hug. It brought tears to my eyes. Go Mark!!!! And... it is his 50th birthday.

Now I hear he is only 9 points out of 12th to make it into the chase... I might have to start watching again. I'm feeling a little nostalgic and it feels good. I might even try to go to a race again.

1. When I watched NASCAR as a teen, I liked Mark Martin best too.
He still drove the Valvoline car then. I hated Jeff Gordon with the heat of a thousand suns.

I haven't watched a race in ten years, but I remember cheering for Mark Martin, who always seemed to be the KING of "Almost but Not Quite" in regard to the Winston Cup Championship.

:hi:

2. The "King of Almost but not Quite"
yep... that's kinda how I felt too.

I've still got my #6 Valvoline tee shirts tucked away somewhere. It was a fun time in my early 20s. I went to races, NASCAR parties, etc. fun fun fun... It is fun now to think about "my guy" actually being able to get back in the chase....

:hi:

3. Wow, you really mean THAT Mark Martin.
I barely follow NASCAR, but I clicked on this link to see if Mark Martin was the son of the old Mark Martin.

Cudos to old guys beating up on young guys!
