Why does pizza sound so good when you order it
and after you eat it makes you never want to eat anything other than fresh fruit and rice ever again?

Blech.

They should figure out what causes that, and market it as a diet strategy.

1. Never had that problem.
I could live on pizza and never eat another piece of fruit or bowl of rice ever again.

3. Are you eating it with carbonated beverages?
Edited on Sun Apr-19-09 12:10 AM by Chan790
I learned early in life that the combination of grease and CO2 for me is a 100% certain lock that I will get nauseous. Didn't matter what it was: pizza, french fries, hamburgers, mac and cheese, fajitas...if I eat greasy food with soda or beer, it's coming back up.

EDit: My mother thought it was funny...I was the only kid alive that could be punished by being taken to McDonald's.

Edit2: Clearly I wasn't drinking as a small child. The beer discovery occurred in college. Wasn't much of a surprise. I tried to explain to my pledge-father that Pizza and Beer was not my idea of a fun bonding activity.

Then you stuff yourself and feel guilty about it.

13. There is a place in Adams Morgan, DC that serves a pizza that is 36" diameter.
I think it's called Giant Pizza. It used to be like $18 for a cheese pie but that was like 10 years ago.

23. It's worse than Dominos
What it lacks in quality it makes up for quantity. It's a place serving giant slices of pizza situated on the bar strip and open from 6PM to 3AM. I don't think the goal was to compete for best pizza in DC, but rather to appeal to falling-down-drunk college students and be the only thing open after the bars close.

We wouldn't eat that crap unless we get pizza first.

It did take three pieces for me to remember how horrible it is, though.

15. You should get tested for celiac sprue; perhaps you're another member of the tribe
Mind you, before I knew I was celiac, I ate tons of pizza and never had any noticeable reaction until the lactose intolerance started at age 40, so there doesn't have to be any connection. But it's good to be tested. You could of course get some flatbread, eat a lot of it and see if you feel bad afterward, then some other day do the same with a lot of pizza toppings, maybe putting them on nachos instead, in order to find out what it is about pizza that's making you feel bad. Or try making your own pizza with low-fat everything to see if it's just the grease. That's the likeliest, of course.

Regardless, congratulations in advance on your forthcoming 10,000th post!:toast:

18. For some people, it can take several weeks for a bad reaction.
I'm a celiac, and sometimes it took a week or so of cheating before it caught up to me. Now that I'm older, I generally get a bad reaction pretty quickly (bloating/diarrhea or contipation). I do love pizza but more than one slice makes me feel like crap (literally). :-(

19. Make your own
http://www.chebe.com/
The cheese bread mix is actually better for pizza crust than is the pizza crust mix, because they add Italian spices to the latter which don't necessarily go with every topping. I just add garlic instead of cheese and am good to go. I was silent celiac for nearly 45 years: literally no difference in digestive effects between eating gluten-containing foods and anything else. I did have pretty much universal anxiety from the B12 depletion and looked like a pregnant man (somewhat less so now) due to missing other vitamins and minerals, presumably. Nowadays, I know if I've been glutened when I have to run to the bathroom at 5 a.m. (Wheee!) So no cheating here.:)

20. I have tried different 'flour' mixtures.
The ones I have the easiest time with are nut flours. I am sensitive to most grains.

BTW the 'pregnant man' or 'wheat bloat' look are the signs of gluten intolerance/wheat allergy.

One thing that I make are 'cheese fritters', which could be used like a crust. I use a combination of grated cheese and herbs and deep fry. YUM!

I also make frittatas with pizza ingredients.

22. it's possible
though I don't really have any other gluten issues. I think it may be one of the responses above, about stuffing myself...

still it's something to think about.

And thank you, i can't wait to be in the 5 figure club :D

17. I don't have that problem with pizza, but I do if I overindulge in sweets.
If I have too many sweets, I just want to eat veggies and rice and maybe a slice of cheese.
