Collectors: What is the ultimate find you would love to have or add to your collection.

1. A signed first edition of Cormac McCarthy's "Blood Meridian." I have first editions of the book, and signed McCarthys, but not a signed "Blood Meridian."

2. I would have loved to have had some Billy Martin signatures, on baseballs or baseball hats. Unfortunately, he died some time ago, and it's hard to find certified, genuine signatures.

3. A signed first edition of Don Dellilo's "Libra."

4. Any signed Mario Vargas Llosa novel. (He is like my unicorn). The one time I had the opportunity to buy a signed Llosa, I was an impoverished writer living hand to mouth and could not afford it. I would love to have a collection of signed Llosa's. I think the guy is one of the three or four truly brilliant novelists currently alive and writing.

1. . . .
You have the most interesting posts of anyone on DU. I'm serious -- I didn't know you were a writer.

I am sorry to say that I am unfamiliar with the above writers, but now I will go and look them up!

4. A meteorite.
I collect rocks. It's cheap. Hell, it's free. I love rocks. The ultimate find, for my collection, would be a meteorite. :D

7. A WWI Luger pistol and WWI US 1911 pistol,
I have a Colt Model 1917 WWI revolver and a Smith & Wesson Model 1917 WWI revolver, as well as a Spanish made 1916 Ruby auto pistol used by the French in WWI. Unfortunately the 2 pistols I lack each would cost more than I paid for my car.

Maybe someday.

9. An LP of "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" signed by all of the members of Genesis.
I'm not sure such a thing exists, but it would be the ultimate find.

10. The Dragon Tower supplement to second-edition Talisman...
...one of the all-time great board games. My wife eBayed the two supps that extend the board diagonally, but the Dragon Tower (US$400 last we checked) enlivens the end game, which is a bit mechanical for our taste.

Of course, the new fourth edition of the game is even better, so we may not play second as much anymore.
