One of our circuits keeps tripping. We have unplugged everything on that circuit, so it is something in the fucking wiring of the house.

6. I hope things eventually get fixed - our house is over 80 years old

and we put almost as much into it as we paid for it, but we love it, and there is no new home built now that is as well made.
We had several very shitty landlords, vowed never again to rent.

9. I placed a call with one that our neighbors suggested.

I will be getting a call back in the morning to schedule the "four hour window".

My neighbors seem to be happy with this electrician's service.

12. Older houses were built...and I mean BUILT.

The houses they throw up today are made out of practically paper and not built to last. If I ever get to a point where I have this hovel paid off, I'm going to look into some of the older houses my landlord/rent to own guy might be selling. I will have built up credit with him by then. Maybe he'll let me start paying on an older house in case anything ever happens to the hovel. I love my little hovel. I just don't expect it to last as long as me. That's not a good sign.

Older houses are the way to go. Once you fix all the crap that is wrong with them and make them "modernized" they are worth the investment just to have something that'll be there as long as you are.

14. I do not think my house qualifies as a well built older home

It was built in the late 1970s. Right around the time that contractors really started to cheap out on materials, etc.

We are slowly updating as we can afford to.

15. Our basement walls are 4' thick made of fieldstone, topped with double walls of brick.

It's a small end of the row, but has a double back yard, concrete and stone patio and side porch. 3 story, 9 rooms, 2 complete bathrooms.
The contractor who did a lot of the work when we fixed it up bought a house 3 blocks away, said he would never waste his money on a new house.

17. I am officially jealous

We have a 2000 sq ft home (no basement) on a 4800 sq ft lot. I wish our backyard was a little bigger.

4 BR 2 full baths 1 3/4 bath LR DR Den attached 2 car garage and a walk in pantry off the breakfast nook.

Mostly I am pleased with the house but it has its days.

16. They're called money pits for a reason.

However, yesterday I planted some rose bushes and prep'ed the veggie garden. Couldn't do that if we rented, so the good outweighs the bad.

I pulled the panel off the box to check on replacing the breaker when I discovered the wire for this particular outlet was aluminum with copper connects. Very bad, very dangerous.
