I guess it was the part about the mask that made me suspicious of the story.

Deputies: Girl Lied About Attempted Abduction

Girl, 13, Told Police Man Wearing Mask Attacked Her

POSTED: 3:58 pm EDT April 20, 2009

UPDATED: 9:20 am EDT April 21, 2009

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A 13-year-old Simpsonville girl made up the story about a man who tried to abduct her, Greenville County Sheriff's Office representative Lt. Shea Smith told FOX Carolina News.
Greenville County sheriff's deputies were investigating an attempted kidnapping in a Simpsonville neighborhood that was reported Sunday night.

According to an incident report, the 13-year-old girl told deputies that she was walking a neighbor's dog in Adams Run when she was approached by a man wearing dark clothing, black gloves and a black mask. The teen told investigators that she was walking the dog around a pond when the man grabbed her by the arm.

The girl told investigators the dog bit the man, who fled in a white van. The girl was unable to provide any additional details about the van or the man.

Smith said deputies don’t know why the young girl made up the story. He also said given her age, the girl will probably not be charged.
