1. I like a wide range of genres. I'd say classic rock, pop with craft (I think generic is the wrong word, since I like some bubblegum like The Monkees - also, this pop can range from pop/rock like The Corrs and Michelle Branch to rock like U2, Garbage, R.E.M, and Bruce Springsteen), singer-songwriter (like A Fine Frenzy, Josh Ritter, and Sarah McLachlan) and folk are my favorite genres.

1. In your own words, how would you describe the music you like?

I like music that makes me think so it can be in a wide variety of genres. Lyrics are important to me. But I also like loud, bass-driven rock and roll. I don't know - music touches places in your mind and soul that are very hard to define.

Depends on where I live. In Vermont, extended spring meant mud up to my armpits. Here in California, it's nice. :P

Lots of guitars, melodies and discernable stories or strong imagery.
So, I love the country-sounding songs of Los Lobos. I notice that most country music that I enjoy is actually written by folk musicians.

hmmmmm....i like a lot of different genres, but it's all about how it makes me feel. the cure is my favorite band, but pop punk/rock is probably my favorite genre (green day and rancid are two of my other top bands), i like some hip hop, classic rock, indie/alternative, some bluegrass. i'm a sucker for 80s music, too.

depends on what the summer is like. the weather in colorado is very unpredictable and our seasons can be all over the map. if the summer is guaranteed to be like last summer with temps staying in the mid-80s and plenty of rain and thunderstorms, i'll take an early summer. if the summer is going to be one of those dry, brutal summers with temps consistently over 90, then i'll take the extended spring.

1. In your own words, how would you describe the music you like? Hard rock, hard blues. That's really it. I'm not a big music fan at all. As for the names you've listed, no offense, but I either hate their music (Springsteen, Monkees, REM, U2) or have never heard of them (everyone else you listed). Don't take this the wrong way, I hate almost everybody's music. The truth is that I really don't enjoy listening to other peop0le sing.

2. Would you rather have an extended spring or early summer? - Neither. I'd prefer an extended winter, and extended autumn, and no spring or summer at all. I hate warm weather, allergy-causing plants and so on. I hate spending $580 a month for A/C. I hatye riding the Metro in the summer with a bunch of sweaty assholes who think cologne is a substitute for showering. Summer fucking sucks, and spring does too.

I only follow the NFL to stay competitive in fantasy football, I have no favorite NFL team and I have a "no rookies on my team" policy in fantasy. As such, I couldn't care less how the draft goes, I just want it to be over - it would be nice to be able to turn on sports talk radio without hearing Mel Kiper, Jr. being taken ten times as seriously as he should be. He's never any more correct than any of the other people ESPN asks, and yet every year we have to hear three fucking weeks of that blowhard gasbag pepper his guesses with the all-informative phrase "It'll be interesting to see...". That asshole is worse than Mike & Mike.

(Okay, my mood is actually turning a bit foul thinking about how hard it is to avoid Kiper, Jr. in a sports-loving office)

Metal, Metal, and more Metal. All the usual suspects from Black Sabbath forward. My current favorite is The Sword, although I am loving Sludge Metal and Doom Metal. Beautiful thing happened about two years ago. I got over my dislike for growling vocals. Opened up a whole new world for me. Now I'm exploring backwards through a shitload of Death Metal and Black Metal. Oh, and I really like Metal, in case you didn't know.

48. It's a style that emerged during the early and mid sixties.

The musicians who were working in the style that Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonius Monk, and others had developed during the 50's began to incorporate the influence of modal harmonies, free jazz, and what would later be called world music into the mix.

There is some blurring between what is considered post bop and hard bop, but post bop had a more open sound. The forms were less rigid and the harmonic structure of the music relied less on functional (traditional standard song type) harmony. Soloists would sometimes abandon the written chord changes in their improvisations. Rhythm sections would imply other time signatures or they would not play the time at some points, opting for a more free approach.

The major players in this then young style were Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, McCoy Tyner, and others.

Many of these artists were on the Blue Note record label.
