1. Can you be a housewife if you're not married?

2. Unemployed.
Kinda hard to be a housewife when you've got no husband.

5. If I was looking for work? Unemployed.
If I wasn't looking for work? Homemaker (I like that better than "housewife").

6. Unemployed if you are seeking work
If you are not and do significantly more housework compared to when you were employed. If you have children at home, you could say that you are a stat at home mom. If you have some kind of hobby that takes up a significant amount of your day and could be done to earn some money, you could say that you do that too.
It does seem that the current working and middle class ideal is being employed even if your spouse works and you do alright as a couple. You might want to keep that in mind if that matters to you.

7. Perfectly okay to say unemployed
In this economy, it's sadly mainstream.

But even in flush times, you should never let others define you by your job or employment status. I am not saying you do this, just a general opinion I have.

8. I would probably say I am exploring my next career path
or trying to get a better handle on my creative needs.
