A sadistic kid I grew up with (now an adult, of course) is now in prison
Just found this out the other day. He's serving a four-year sentence for battering his girlfriend into a bloody pulp (apparently, not his first time beating his girlfriends up).

My experience with him: In the fifth grade, over at his house, he introduced me to what he said was a new "water massage" faucet his parents had added to their kitchen sink. At his request, I placed my hand under the faucet. He pressed some lever, and out came scalding hot water. I walked home with my left wrist and top part of my left hand bursting with blisters.

So the spoiled rich kid with below-average intelligence and a taste for torture has become wife/girlfriend beater, and is now doing hard labor in a southern work prison. No surprise.

1. My dear brentspeak...
I'm sorry you were an early victim. And I'm sorry he grew up to become what he signaled he would become early on...

My sympathies also to his victims...

Four years? It should be longer, much longer...

7. It should be longer, I agree
From what I read, it sounds like he'll probably end up killing one of his girlfriends.

2. Brent: I kid who lived down the block when we were young
told police he saw me hanging around his family's garage before it caught fire. Turned out he set it himself.

He went on to become a pharmacist, then lost his license and went to a Federal Prison for a long, long time for stealing drugs from the pharmacy and along with a Doctor, selling them for street use.

I read somewhere that a very small percent - under 10% of the population is responsible for 90% of the crime - I guess they are programmed like this, start young.

Hope his GF has enough sense not to wait for him in case he "changes".

He won't.

5. From the newspaper article I read, it sounds like his GF will probably run back to him
The incident which got him sent to prison occurred in 2007, but he had been convicted of domestic abuse against the same girlfriend back in 2002. For whatever reason, she stayed with him.

6. A friend of mine was a state's attorney
This guy we used to know from growing up was in the dock for his ssecond DUI. They were reviewing the case internally with the head State's Attorney when my friend piped up that this guy was a jerk ever since they were kids, a bully etc. He convinced everyone that this guy should do 18 months in prison, not 1 month nights and weekend deal in the nice county jail that was usual. My buddy convinced everyone in the state's attorney's office and that was the sole and only offer. The bully.dui guy took the deal and did the time.

Funny thing, my buddy was telling everyone this story in the tavern after a softball game a few weeks later. Turns out he confused this dui guy with another guy who was a real bad egg. So, this dui guy did 18 months in Stateville for nothing. Eeek!

12. Probably was - You can not be given that diagnosis till you
are legally adult (18). Adolescents are diagnosed with "personality disorders". Juvenile records are also legally sealed, can't be used against the peoson as an adult.
There is NO treatment for sociopathy - I personally believe it is something you are born with and can't be changed.
Only thing to do is to either confine them forever or execute them.

I worked with several over the last 15 years - they are pretty scary because they are very skilled at appearing normal and they love to bring others down with them. There always seem to be plenty of others who are attracted to them.

9. I wish they could capture all the childhood/teenage sadists and put them in a program
so they won't hurt anyone.

10. A kid on my street when I was very little, around 5 was very sadistic
he beat up all the kids
his das was mowing the lawn, turned off the mower to fix something in it and the 7 year old son turned the mower back on, laughing, the dad lost the majority of his fingers
I never went to the same school as him because he was expelled in the first grade for attacking a teacher with a knife

very very sad......I don't know what ever happened to him but it can't be gool

13. This is why there needs to be a 'zero-tolerance' for bullies
Edited on Thu Apr-23-09 09:18 AM by LynneSin
because if you can intervene when they are young their aggressive behaviors could be addressed in hope that they can outgrow those horrible behaviors.

I had a bully when I was in middle school. I stood out because I was this tall gawky pale kid who was in gifted programs and this kid was the son of the school's football coach. He never outgrew his bullying ways throughout school (i just learned to avoid him).

After I graduated college I found out one of the girls I went to school with was dating him. It seems his bullying ways never went away and he was treating her badly too.

If they are bullies when they are kids there is a good chance that attitude will follow them when they become adults.
