I don't see why they crucified Him again though. Don't see any violations of the rules here....

31. Yeah, I would have blabbed.
I meant more as someone who knew about the hypocrisy of religious sexual rules and gender roles. Later in the book she became everyones trusted confidant because everyone knew she would not judge them. A second scandal occurred when it seemed like Hester was not indocrinating her daughter.

Started to write a post with a Lounge Ishmael chasing Internet narwals. But the first couple of lines didn't work, and with all the normal perserverance and dedication of a Lounge lifer, I quickly dumped the project for a cheaper laugh.

34. He's been popping up in my life lately.
I ran across a tidbit that John Kennedy Toole killed himself in Biloxi, near where I grew up, so in trying to find the exact location I wound up discovering that he grew up near my parents in New Orleans, so I began questioning them to see if they might have known him, and then looking for places and areas in the book they would remember, so lately I've been listening to the audiobook of the novel and wondering how I had missed so much ages ago when I first read (part of) it.

I did find the site of his death, which is next to a soccer field I used to watch my niece play on. So far my parents haven't remembered anyone named Ken Toole, though. They had never heard of the book before.

And of course, being an underemployed genius with a master's degree in medieval history who spends too much time alone thinking of grand theories, I have also been trying to convince myself I really don't have much else in common with him.

36. Where did he grow up, exactly?
My dad grew up on Joseph Street, not at all far from (and equidistant between) St. Charles Ave. and St. Vincent Cemetery.

It remains his favorite book, definitely at least somewhat due to the New Orleans-ness of it.

38. Webster and St. Charles area. You two were neighbors.
He went to Tulane, taught at Dominican for a while.

My mother grew up on Magazine around Napoleon somewhere (forget the address, it's a small convenience store now, used to be a hardware store when she lived there) and my father grew up on Forshey near Carrolton. I grew up in Mississippi, so my New Orleans knowledge is good in some areas, weak in others.

40. Ignatius was my first thought before I even saw the choices!
In a sense, he already has: an honest-to-goddess New Orleanian once suggested that I would be ideal for the role; meanwhile, Mom never could finish 'Dunces" because Ignatius reminded her too powerfully of her only son!
