Good morning Lounge
How are you today? Did you miss me yesterday? :P
Sorry for the late post today. I got here this morning and had to solve some computer problems together with our IT guy. Now it is almost noon and I am only starting now with my library work. :eyes:
Yesterday was a nice and successful day. And we were done a lot earlier than expected. So I was home at a decent time :)

It's Friday! :bounce::bounce: and finally some nicer weather on the way!

My dad is still in the hospital. On Wednesday they decided that he needed a defibrillator implanted and were supposed to do it yesterday. Then they never did it :wtf: so he is STILL there. :(

Have a great day!!!! Looking forward to our chat....

I should have taken the day off, I tell ya ...

Weather is sunny but cool. But supposed to get warmer over the weekend again.

Oh malta ... sorry to hear about your dad

Looking forward to the chat also. Would it be bad if I'd call a bit later than 6pm? I should be home, asking just in case.

Of course I missed you! But glad to hear that yesterday proved productive and that you got home earlier than expected. that is a bonus.

Solving problems with IT already? Goodness, what would they do without you. ;)

I am so glad it's Friday. Work has been exhausting so tomorrow I'm going to sleep in and do some errands. In the evening getting together with friends for a pot sticker party. Yummy!

This is not my pic, but maybe I'll have one for you on Monday. ;)

You are not going to believe this, but it's supposed to be sunny with a high of 85F today. I'm at a loss as to what to wear to work, so I opted for a suit with a sleeveless top.

Still in FL until tomorrow. We were going to leave today, but I persuaded harleydad to work all day (makes a good impression) and let me veg for another day. Otherwise, we would have to drive half the night and I HATE doing that ... and worry about him doing it. This way, we can have a nice evening and leave in the morning.

Oh yeah, I might want to check with my pet sitter first.

I can't remember when I've been able to relax like this. It's been too long. Of course, I did have a little legal homework to do, but nothing I couldn't handle in a few hours. I would be glad to share some of the vegging with you. How long till the end of the semester?

48. well, technically
the semester ends for me on May 2nd, but I have a non-school conference the following week, where I'm in charge of the volunteers, and then on Memorial Day weekend I'm going to another conference (which I'm not particularly looking forward too - I'm only going because friends of mine will be in town and are making me go). So I guess everything will calm down at the end of May. Hopefully.

I'm glad you are getting a rest - you certainly deserve it!

You still have a long haul in front of you. Perhaps the conferences will be more enjoyable than the semester has been. Come and see me after that and we'll set you up for some relaxation.

Thank you. It's amazing how the body and mind can keep going when it needs to and then soak up every bit of relaxation when given a chance. I'm so glad I made the decision to switch hotels, or it would have been a very difficult week. As it is, I'm not getting the urge to go home ... which is perfect because we'll leave before we get tired of it. Many times, I'm ready to go home almost as soon as I arrive in FL.

Now it's like summer would be in most places. Clear blue skies, mild temps, low humidity. Of course, it rarely climbs above the mid 90s here, but the humidity gets so high that it's really hard to take if you're not used to it.

I will, definitely! And next time I will get a lake view balcony. First floor rooms don't have a balcony and I didn't know that. But even without it, I like this one much better. Can't sleep in, of course, because I have to drive harleydad to work. He insists that I have the car all day long, even though I don't really want to go anywhere. Still, it's very relaxing.

Just went to the gift shop and bought a tourist t-shirt for the pet sitter. Very simple, but good quality. Maybe he'll like it.

42. Not just one store.
People here are just rude. I remember the first time I went into a grocery store, two ladies were fighting in the deli line about who got there first. Yelling, clawing ... not pretty. Found out later that's just par for the course around here. Not as likely to happen at a place like Whole Foods, where we will go to stock up on baby coconuts later on today.

Even driving is challenging. The old rule to leave one car length in front of you for every 10 MPH of speed is completely impossible. If you leave just one car length, someone will scoot in there, without signaling, of course. It's no wonder that car insurance rates are so high here.

Of course, the people who work in the nice restaurants and hotels have been schooled in how to behave. I don't mind staying in this little cocoon. Not in the mood to shop anyway.

Your weekend plans sound wonderful. Our azaleas have blossomed and are gorgeous, for the first time. Last year they had a little bit of a tough time. I know you will enjoy the flowers. Take lots of pics, if they let you.

50. Absolutely!
And the crowds, the whole culture. More rushing around than anything. You don't get the relaxed, slow, tropical sort of atmosphere that you would expect. For the life of me, I can't figure out why someone would want to retire here. The weather is beautiful, but that's right now, which is definitely the best part of the year. In a few weeks, it will be like a steam sauna. Then come the hurricanes. No thank you!

I can't believe how much it has changed in just a short time, as far as how many more buildings and shopping centers have gone up. There is literally a shopping center on every corner. One of the roads, 441, was just 2 lanes with some corners that were just woods. Now it has 3 lanes in each direction and every bit of property has something built on it. Same thing is happening in TN, but they at least have the sense to not put the same thing on every corner and to space buildings out a bit more. For now, anyway.

Either one sounds wonderful. And very relaxing and ... I just lost the word I was going to use. x( But good. I know you will enjoy whichever one you choose to do.

I think if you live in the area and see the daily change it isn't as overwhelming. I would say with the economic crisis and housing crisis it will slow down in FL too.

68. Actually, I don't ask that anymore.
 Not feeling quite as stressed about things, ever since we got C to fix us up. Hoping there will be even less stress after July. ;)

I met someone on the beach yesterday morning and we were talking about the changes. I looked across the road where I saw a huge building where there used to be a little surf shop. She said it had a bunch of very large condos in it that are going for something like $1.4 million each. Just went on the market, so no one knows how they will do. But she said things have been selling easily. If I had $1.4 million, you can bet I wouldn't spend it on a condo in that area (not a pretty city there at all). But that's me.

I just hope he doesn't become a real one too soon. :scared: Might be time to call and see how he's doing ...

Tomorrow morning. Going to spend the whole day here. Housekeeper wants to clean my room, but she says she'll come back. I really didn't make it too messy, so it doesn't matter if she doesn't get back. She does a wonderful job of making up the bed. :D

83. He said to call
when we get home. So I'll call tomorrow evening.

Don't know yet. I'll call him in a bit. I had already made arrangements for him to stay the night tonight. So if he can't stay tomorrow, that will be OK. They critters have had late suppers before, after all.

They are thrilled with him. He feels the stress of wanting to perform. But he has that SO in the bag it's not funny! CEO patted him on the back the other day and said he'd heard a lot of good things.

We had dinner last night with one of his co-workers from the other company, the one he used to stay with when he came down here the first year. Listening to him talk, I'm very relieved that harleydad is out of there. Sounds like bad things keep happening. They let harleydad's boss go a week or so ago. We sort of saw that coming, but were still surprised. Glad we didn't pack up and move for those numbskulls.

That the new company is so excited about having him. AND that he didn't stay with the other company.

I never really believed that whole "when one door closes another one opens" stuff ... but it sure did happen this time! :bounce:

You wouldn't have liked it ... We went to a sushi buffet. Stephen's friend doesn't like sushi, but there's also a grill there where they'll cook whatever you pick out. Of course, harleydad and I did the sushi. And I had some plum wine. :9 Gotta get our fill of sushi while we're here, after all.

Might go to the fish place next door tonight. Have never been there. What they serve tonight was caught today, so we're talking fresh! :9 I know ... none of it appeals to you at all.

102. I like some of their teas ...
and don't like some of them. It's best to try a small bottle before buying a whole jug of something you might not like. Many of them are pretty sweet. I like my tea just lightly sweetened. As you know, I'm not a big fan of the sweet tea everyone in TN drinks.

Yes, I will! :bounce: Of course, I should go to the front desk and tell them we'll be staying. They need to add a day to my room key and re-scan my credit card, etc. But I have until noon to do that. I'll wait till I'm ready to pack up my laptop and go to the pool.

104. That's a good way of putting it.
TN tea is WAY too sweet for me. I doubt I'd even like it half 'n half.

I do like Harry Potter. I read the first 5 books when they came out. I didn't read this one when it came out because I wanted to wait for number seven so I wouldn't spend a year in suspense. But then I never got to it.

I don't especially like the movies -- mostly the Quidditch games that I don't like to watch. But the kids are cute. Oh, and I liked Richard Harris' Dumbledore much better than I like the new guy (can't recall who's playing him now).

Well, next time you come to DC, you must let us DCers know ahead of time. We'll take you to the important places like the Tune Inn on Capitol Hill, Tastee Diner in Bethesda, the spot where Franklin and Eleanor were nearly blown to bits in 1918, the Clover Adams monument in Rock Creek Cemetery, J. Edgar Hoover's grave with Clyde Tolson nearby at Congressional Cemetery and the INFAMOUS Boy Scout monument on the ellipse that everyone overlooks but is strangest statue in town.

My daughter bought a '93 Altima in '97 (black) and drove it until last summer. She wanted to get a new one, but couldn't afford it. But she LOVED that car. Just about drove the wheels off it. Must have had about 250K miles on it (odometer broke at about 150K). Not sure who has it now -- she didn't trade it in -- but I think she said they fixed whatever was wrong with it for less than $1K and are driving it.

I hope you enjoy your new car!

At this meet-up we librarians get a chance to ask our questions and communciate with each other. Of course there is commercial for the company. But we all work with their program already, so they don't need to acquire new companies at that day. It is all very informal. Yesterday we were only 10 people including the two speaker of the company.

I wish you a wonderful day too and a great weekend. Any plans?
