Susan Boyle gets eyebrow-raising makeover
LONDON - What’s next, a fake tan?

Britain is buzzing over singing sensation Susan Boyle’s mini-makeover, with some worrying that her new look may cost her some support in the “Britain’s Got Talent” competition that catapulted her to international stardom.

Boyle, 47, became an instant YouTube and Internet celebrity after appearing on the British TV show with gray frizzy hair, bushy eyebrows and a jowly face above a remarkably unflattering dress. The contrast between Boyle’s un-adorned looks and her angelic singing voice endeared her to viewers the world over.

1. I think she looks great!
Certainly, as makeovers go, this was far from overboard. Perhaps her success has given her some newfound confidence.

2. This has got to be a game.
They take someone who's normal innocent but with a lovely singing voice and see how fast they can pimp her out and turn her into some celeb trash? Its like what Disney does to those kid actors.

9. Come on, they didn't turn her into Britney Spears with stripper makeup.
They just cleaned up her look a little, like most of us would do for a job interview.

28. Oh please. She spent a lifetime caring for others. Let someone care for HER
for a change. Most of us like a little pampering and a fresh new look from time to time; she's earned it! Besides, it's very tame as a makeover goes; that's a short afternoon at the salon, not three months of plastic surgery!

32. You didn't see the makeover, apparently
They got rid of the gray in her hair, waxed her brows, evened out her skin tone and put her in a nice dress.

I think I would have gone a little farther, but not much...combed hair and visible lips are always nice.

3. I rather like her new look
It's classy, and not a bit overdone. She looks like a woman who's aging gracefully now.

But it's up to her. If she likes it, then more power to her. Either way, she'll still be a amazing singer.

26. I have a lot of middle aged friends who look like that.
They look nice, but not like they spend four hours turning themselves out. Why should any woman have to do that?

I have one friend who does all the fussing, with expensive haircuts, clothes and beauty regimens. I don't know why. I would still love her without all the fuss. Maybe she wouldn't love herself.

8. I still think she looks lovely. She is still the same woman. She still sings the same.

I think any backlash people might dish out would only be counter to her original appeal.

"Don't judge a book by it's cover" is not a sentiment limited to the unpolished and awkward. Susan Boyle IS STILL Susan Boyle. Any hatred she may receive, especially from those who sought to make her a poster gal for the underdog and the ordinary, would be hypocritical. Her singing, which is what she actually shared with us for critique, is not dependent on her appearance...no matter what.

The world would be a much nicer place if we could all really practice acceptance. Is Susan is happy with Susan, than i am happy for her.

11. Her beauty is in the joy with which she sings.
She has an average look, and a very good--but not perfect--voice, but what has brought audiences to tears is the pure honesty and joy in her voice. Her inner beauty comes out no matter how she looks.

It would be no more honest, and maybe even less honest, to try to keep her appearance the same as to change it. Most of us would buy more expensive clothes and pay more attention to our hair and appearance if we suddenly became famous and successful. If they tried to manipulate her image to stay the same as when she first stepped on stage, that would be phony. She's not the same.

12. If people judge her for getting a new hair cut and some new clothes
then they still haven't learned not to judge her talent by how she looks. x(

Damn it, let the woman sing. That's all. None of the rest of this matters to anyone but her.

I hope she enjoys a bit of pampering and attention, and I hope she likes her new look. Beyond that, I am looking forward to hearing more of her singing.

13. I think the changes are appropriate.
She needed to get a good haircut and trim her eyebrows, and get more flattering clothes.

She still looks like herself.

If they want to, then fine. But need? No.

16. I wouldn't call it a makeover - I'd just call it "putting on makeup and not dressing frumpy"
like most women do every day.

All they did was bring her up to "regular".

18. If she ends up feeling better about herself and is not "forced" to do
the makeover, then I have no problem with it. But the beauty in her talent goes well beyond any physical beauty.

20. I think it's awful when people try to make themselves look better.
I wouldn't mind going to a job interview in my robe and slippers myself, yawning and scratching myself, if I knew I would be successful, earning the big bucks.

22. Good for her...let her have her fame, because she deserves it
I think she has a great voice, and she would only be following through with this because the "rest of us" think that she is frumpy-looking and not a bodacious blond with huge tits! Don't people realize that, by going on this show ( and succeeding at it greatly ) that she has given the biggest middle-finger to everyone on this stupid planet that thinks that a beautiful voice has the right to come out of a "bodacious blond with huge tits only"? Hell, yeah! Give this fucking world the middle finger, Susan!

24. She looks great
There's nothing wrong with a makeover - a lot of us would like to have someone teach us how to highlight our better features and minimize our not-so-great ones. I'm not vain in the least but I do like to look nice and having someone help me do it would be great.

All power to her - she looks great and she deserves the attention she's getting because she sure can sing.

27. I agree. She looks her age now (she looked older before, imho)

her hair looks more manageable and her clothes fit better and are more flattering. Eyebrow tweezing is a pain, but eyebrows do a lot to convey emotion so having them proportioned to her eyes really brightens up her face. It was a non-extreme makeover, which is refreshing!

35. My eyes! My EYESSSS!
God grief, those are hideous! It reminds me of the make-overs they used to do in "Parade" where the "before" picture was so much better.

I think the British version is so much better. They didn't try to tart her up to look like some teen-aged starlet. She looks like a pleasant middle-aged woman who's comfortable with herself. That's a whole lot more appealing to me than some plastic Barbie wannabe.

Good to see someone who doesn't look like a Barbie doll have a shot at stardom in this day and age; quite unlike the present generation of pop or country western singers.
