I think the way we did it in the bad old cold war days is the
way to go.  Of course we don't officially torture people and
never on these shores. But we do look the other way when field
agents (outside of USA) excercise their discretion and do what
they need to do to get info from bad guys.

I mean, why do you have a clandestine service?  Would you
replace them with Google?  

It's a dangerous world and anyone who thinks islamists are
going to be nice to us now should have their head examined. 
It doesn't upset me a bit to hear that an al-quaeda capture
was waterboarded, electro-shocked or anything else.  Our lives
are more important than their rights as far as I'm concerned.
