Tonight's cowbell tune: Little Feat - Fat Man in the Bathtub
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDp3Grz28mE&feature=related

Spotcheck Billy got down on his hands and knees
He said "Hey momma, hey let me check your oil all right?"
She said "No, no honey, not tonight
Comeback Monday, comeback Tuesday, then I might."

I said Juanita, my sweet Jaunita, what are you up to?
My Juanita
I said Jaunita, my sweet taquita, what are you up to?
My Juanita

Don't want nobody who won't dive for dimes
Don't want no speedballs 'cause I might die tryin
Throw me a line, throw me a line
'Cause there's a fat man in the bathtub with the blues
I hear you moan, I hear you moan, I hear you moan

Billy got so sad, dejected, put on his hat and start to run
Runnin' down the street yellin' at the top of his lungs
All I want in this life of mine is some good clean fun
All I want in this life and time is some hit and run

I said Juanita, my sweet Jaunita, what are you up to?
My Jaunita
I said Jaunita, my sweet taquito, what are you up to?
My Juanita

Put my money in your meter baby so it won't run down
But you caught me in the squeeze play on the cheesy side of town
Throw me a dime, throw me a line
'Cause there's a fat man in the bathtub with the blues
I hear you moan, I hear you moan, I hear you moan

Didn't get to see them live until the late 90s, they still put on a great show.

9. Of the post George period
Let it Roll (1988) was a huge success. Here's a Craig Fuller acoustic version of "Hate to Lose Your Lovin'"

7. the comments there are great
I graduated HS that year and I remember Midnght Special. It used to follow Johnny Carson on Friday nights. Good stuff.

8. Midnight Special was the best.
Learned how to play Born On The Bayou watching CCR on that show.

10. ah, you're old, too :)
I laughed at this comment:

"Been a year since she ran away....."
If I could just get my hands on that guitar player, I'd ask the sumvabitch to...show me where I'm going wrong with the D chord, d'ya think I should put my pinkie here, or what...?

11. I love the version of this on Waiting for Columbus
I saw Feat, but with Shaun Murphy out front. To be honest, you sit through half the show waiting for her to get done so you can hear the band do the old stuff.

So, I leave you with Mercenary Territory, which has the line I should make my signature when posting in GD: "Now some kind of man, he can't do anything wrong/ If I see him I'll tell him you're waiting"

Is it the lies?
Is it the style?

It's a mercenary territory
I wish you knew the story
I've been out here so long dreamin up songs
I'm temporarily qualmless and sinking

I've did my time in that rodeo
It's been so long and I've got nothing to show
Well I'm so plain loco
Fool that I am I'd do it all over again

Is it the style?
Is it the lies?
Is it the days into nights
Or the "I'm sorrys" into fights

Now some kind of man, he can't do anything wrong
If I see him I'll tell him you're waiting
'Cause I'm devoted for sure but my days are a blur
Well your nights turn into my mornings

Well I did my time in that rodeo
Fool that I am I'd do it all over again

Is it love keeps you waiting so long
Makes you say I'll see you around
The forces that be, they just don't see
While your nights turn into my mornings

Is it the style?
Is it the lies?
Is it the days into nights
Or the "I'm sorrys" into fights

13. I really enjoyed the Craig Fuller days...
...I remember Bonnie Raitt's quote from "Hoy Hoy," the "Best Of-Tribute-Outtakes" album that was released shortly after Lowell's passing: "I miss Little Feat more than I miss being eight years old."

So when "Let It Roll" was released, I had my doubts, but that album and the the two Fuller efforts that followed, "Representing The Mambo" and "Shake Me Up," are favorites to this day.

I never developed an appreciation for Shawn...she gets the job done as a background vocalist, but out front? Not my cup of tea.

Two albums I highly recommend, both covering ALL eras of Little Feat:
