I'm having a serious problem
I started watching LOST last week, and even though I have worked my way up to about 5 episodes a day, I just want to sit around and watch it.

I'm a little over halfway through the second season. I just saw the episode where Hurley was about to jump off the cliff.

I want to know what happens, but I need to do things like eat, bathe, and let the dogs out occasionally.

Does anyone have a cure for this disease?

(PS Season 2 is a bit better with the birds, but there was a Mourning Dove singing at 3 AM, and a Mountain Chickadee in downtown LA.)

Start watching a shorter run TV series from episode 1.

5. Surface
It premiered about the same time as LOST but only lasted like 1 or 2 seasons. It was pretty good too. Too bad NBC put it in the wrong time slot. I can't remember which show it was up against, but it didn't stand a chance.

2. I am having the same problem.
I took the week off to get some things done around the house. All I have accomplished this week is watching the first four seasons of Cold Case. I haven't left my house since tuesday.

4. You need to watch Rome. Only two seasons, both of the male leads are hot.
Or The Tudors for the same reason (bonus: You already know how it ends!)

7. Oddly enough
One of the better things about Lost is the dearth of hot guys. Jack's too nice, and everyone else is too freaky or pathetic.

Not having a hot dude to root for lets you enjoy the interplay a little more, ya know?

Wow,too nice, too freaky too pathetic. You're hard to please.I think I'll tell you what will happen

in all the episodes that you haven't watched yet just to teach you a lesson.

And BTW,I'm a nice freaky pathetic guy so that's why I'm being so cruel.

Ok,Spoiler #1:

The Island is in fact...argh,can't do it...I'm also a wimp.

15. Sayid IS the hottest, yes
but the whole torturing people thing? Would be a deal breaker for me.

Also, the fact that he pledged his undying love to whatsername even though you KNOW the second they get off the island they're totally done with each other. (Cough, cough, I know that something "interferes", cough.)

And I don't know what it is about Jack, but something in his personality is slightly off-putting, and I can't put my finger on it.

17. "...torturing people thing? Would be a deal breaker..."

Well I don't clearly remember the part about the pledge to whatsername very clearly,is it Shannon?

The spoiled brat? Anyway let's just say that Sayid will become a more attractive character as time

goes by and that he's traumatized by what he did. What's this "something" that "interferes"? Not sure

how far you are in season 2 but I don't want to spoil the fun so I won't say what I suppose you're

referring to...

You should do something for that coughing BTW :)

Now Jack.Yep,not my favorite character either but he'll change too. That little

something that you can't put your finger on is maybe this: Matthew Fox,the actor who plays him

looks a bit like Tom Cruise (but taller) and most of all he smiles and acts in a very similar way,at

least that's what I think.Be sure to watch season 3,episodes recaps sucks because there's so

much going on that they don't cover everything.

19. I think the Tom Cruise thing is part of it
Wierd that they cast a guy who looks and acts like Tom Cruise to play that part.

Sayid's thing with Shannon bugged me. It seemed like they were hot for each other because they both thought they could get something out of it.

You're saying were. Can I assume that they are not hot for each other anymore in the last

episode you watched ? Lol,I guess it would help if I knew were you are in the show. What was the last

big thing that happened or the most recent cliffhanger ?

28. Ok,after searching a bit I managed to find that episode.

Season 2, Episode 19: S.O.S.
5 episodes left before the end of season 2.

Wow,while searching I remembered a lot of stuff that

I've totally forgotten.

When Shannon died did you cry ? :P

I remember that when that happened,3 years ago, most

peoples here basically said good riddance !

Meh,I was beginning to like her.

The next episode is called Two for the Road.

That's a good one! Enjoy. :)

And that's another thing that makes this show so interesting, you

never know who will live or die. After watching a couple of episodes

don't hesitate to send a PM if you want to discus about it.There's

a lot of stuff that I missed and only discovered this afternoon

while searching to find what episode you were talking about.

This year's season is almost finished but I have the last 8 shows

that are waiting to be seen.I love to watch at least 2-3 of them

in a row to get my "fix". :)

10. Are you looking for episode recaps?
If you want to read the major aspects of each episode, go here: http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Episodes

My personal recommendation: Go ahead and read through Season 3 if you don't have time, but watch Season 4 because it seriously kicks ass (The Constant is the BEST episode of the entire show so far so you MUST watch it.)

13. It's ridiculously addicting
When the show first started, I refused to watch because the concept seemed so stupid to me. The following Summer, I had the TV on for background noise when the first episode of LOST re-aired. In the first 5 minutes, I was hooked.

Another resource is http://www.lost-forum.com/ Scroll down and you can see forum threads for each episode of every season.

18. You have chosen an interesting way to experience the series
on the plus side you have managed to limit the waiting. On the minus, you haven't enjoyed the years of cooler/internet talk about the show. You might want to check out Lostpedia. THey have intersting tibits about each show that you might miss.

34. I've decided that after graduation I am going to rent every season of LOST...
check into a hotel and come back to my family in a week when I am done. The discussions on Wednesday night/Thursday leave me reeling. I do not have an attention for detail and feel utterly mentally challenged compared to other fans of the show. How the hell do they remember every bit of minutae?

38. Once the show wraps up, I plan to borrow my son's
set of Lost dvds and re-watch in order. But not before then. Like you, I find myself amazed by post-show real-time discussions. I have to hit Lostpedia just to recall minor character names, much less what they were wearing, their facial expressions and the like.

And to the OP: Welcome! It is such a great show, innit? Do you not find Sawyer attractive? I think he's purdy.

21. Three cures I can think of:
1.) Watch ALL the episodes ever at once

2.) Watch another show for a while

3.) Get up and do something else until you forget about it

If those don't work, well....

22. What do you mean, "better with the birds"?
They use bird sound tracks incorrectly? I hadn't noticed. There are Mourning Doves in Hawaii along with zebra and spotted doves. None of which are endemic.

If you want to know what plants and trees there are in a certain scene, I can probably tell you. I know most Hawaiian endemic and exotic species. In the wide shots of the valleys look for trees with orange blooms, those are African tulips. The tree that the black smoke trapped people was of course a banyan.

25. The first season had a lot of North American birds
Since I don't know the birds of Hawaii, I can't say whether the second season is using Hawaiian birds or birds from somewhere else. (Is there anything there that makes a barking sound like a trogon?)

The Mourning Dove was used in a night scene in LA, and I think it was supposed to sound like an owl. :P

26. The endemic bird populations on O'ahu are pretty much decimated.
You'll only find them in the higher elevations where the mosquitos carrying avian malaria don't breed. There are all kinds of exotics on the all islands, cardinals, finches myna birds etc. brought in from all over the world. I like the endemic birds, they are special and I've seen quite a few.

39. TV all at once is THE BEST
the way they do series these days, on-again and off-again, I have this tendency to get distracted, lose attention, and forget to watch. But with everything all at once on DVD -- it's like total immersion, you get to live in this little world for awhile. Which, unfortunately, leads to this side effect you have mentioned of wanting to do nothing but watch it. No recommendations, unfortunately, but enjoy!

That way you've got bathing, eating and peeing covered.
